1971 Mazda RX2 Super Deluxe from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"V8 eater"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The RX-7 series 2 gearbox fitted to the car when I purchased it failed and has now been replaced by an RX-5 gearbox.

The differential has failed twice. This is no fault of the car, the original differential was never designed to cope with a turbo charged engine.

General comments?

This car handles well for it's age. It has multi-link rear suspension, which certainly beats the leaf-spring design of its era.

My car is fitted with larger front and rear sway bar, lowered heavy-duty springs and Koni dampeners.

I have owned a Mazda RX-3 and a Mazda RX-4 with similar suspension set-ups. The Mazda RX-2 is superior in the suspension department.

The standard braking system is average, almost dangerous. This is one area I will improve.

This car is stupidly fast, I can't believe my car is legal.

My favorite car ever is my 72 RX2. I bought ot from a rotary fanatic. It would easly do 130+ and the suspension was set up to race SCCA. On a Very Cold Day I dropped a washer down the intake while spraying in starting fluid, I didn't know until it started. Well it has set for several years and know I have to sell. It has a 13B (removed and needs a seal). It has a 15% 5 speed Bullit Proof Trans, Racing suspension, a air dam and a spoiler. The color is bright yellow. There is a 4 barrel carb. E-mail me if interested. david@mqnet.net.

My grandfather used to be a big time mechanic for Mazda, and he's had various rotaries in his back yard for many years. we just recently put together a '72 rx2 with a pretty good body, as a hobby car for me. I am in love with it. just today I dusted a Subaru STi! we lowered it about an 1-1.5in, so I havn't experienced any sliding yet on wet surfaces. but I have noticed the sub-par braking, I've had a few close calls, and I was wondering if you had any thoughts on what breaking braking mods would be good?
