2000 Hyundai Elantra Sedan from North America - Comments

"This car should be called "a disposable car", after 10,000 miles, you need a new vehicle!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Where do I start?

1. At about 9,000 miles, the Hyundai Elantra paint started to bubble and chip off. It took two weeks to get an appointment to have this problem fixed only for the dealership to have the car for three weeks to "fix" the paint.

2. At about 9,500 miles, the car started to stall when I was at red lights or stopped at a signal. Again it took about two weeks to get an appointment to have this problem fixed.

3. 12,200 miles, the car starts shaking and makes loud noises. I took the car into the shop and was told "There is nothing wrong. Your car is fine!"

4. 12,900 miles the paint started bubbling again! Once again I had to wait about two weeks to get an appointment only for them to keep the car for another two weeks to fix the paint.

5. 16,500 miles, the car lighter stopped working and I was told that this is not a "warrant-able repair".

6. 30,000 miles the car starts shaking and cannot be driven. I had to have a tow truck pick it up and bring it into the shop. They eventually fixed the miss firing of the engine and the car was returned to me.

7. 35,000 miles the paint starts bubbling and chipping again and was told this time that "It is no longer under warranty for the paint!"

8. 45,000 miles the rotors are warped and need to be replaced. The rotors that were put on the vehicle from the manufacturer are too thin! (Again, not a warrant-able repair)

General comments?

I bought this car simply because of the "great" warranty it had. I would never buy another Hyundai. I have spent so much time in the shop and I have spent so much money on repairs, I could have bought a BMW!

I agree THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. The hyundai, I bought for the great warranty. AFTER 100,000 MILES IT STARTED TO FALL APART. I spent a lot of time and money on repairs. MY problems began with rotors, leaking fuel line, collant fan REPLACEMENT and now PROBLEMS WITH THE transmission. I will never buy another hyundai again...

This car was fairly inexpensive to purchase originally, but the cost of the extensive and frequent repairs make this car less than desireable. The rotors and sparkplug wires needed to be replaced three times within the first 100,000 miles. Once the 100,000 miles was passed, immediately, all heck broke loose and everything else started to fail. I would NEVER purchase another Hyundai.

If you buy a domestic, you will have 200 Percent more problems. Read the book Lemon-aid car buying. Hyundai has been improving by leaps. All cars have some kind of problems. Even my old Toyota corolla was known for constant break jobs. Yet this is cheaper than motor and tranny work. Good luck with future cars.
