"I love my truck"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have had those EGR valve problems.

The first time I took it to the shop. $200.

Then about 50 miles later it bogged down again.

And I wasn't in a position to turn around and go back to the shop.

So I took it out on the HWY and FLOORED it.

I got it up to about 100 mph and then slowed back down.

Then I took it up to about 85 and slowed back down.

I haven't had any problems with my EGR valve since.

And I saved $200.

I suggest you try to clear out the that valve by acceleration.

It will blow itself out.

If you don't want to fly down the HWY at 100 MPH.

Take off from a complete stop by punching it.

It worked for me and it lasts longer than a service call.

Drive safe.

You are right... EGR valve.. problems all the time. I was so tire of taking the car to the shop for the same reason every 3000 miles, I learned how to clean it myself. Since I been doing it myself, I haven't had a problem. the fuel pump is bad on the right now. I haven't drove it in over a week. I like the truck, but I'm tire of the same problems over and over. my truck has over 150,000 miles and my next car will not be a GMC. by the way, this is the 3rd fuel pump in 3 years. my starter goes bad every so often as well.. got to love it...

My gmc 1994 4x4 truck has been nothing but problem after problem. first the EGR valve time and time and time again. finally, I learned how to do it myself, and voila!!! no problems since them. now the engine light comes on.. my mechanic tell me not to worry about it as long as it runs. I was so tire of the engine light on, I placed a prayer card in front of it. I let a Higher Power take care of it because I'm sick of it. the fuel pump is bad now. this is the third one in three years. i'll never buy another gmc again. the starter is another problei won't even talk about. I hate to say, but is been the worst i ever had.

I also have the misfortune of owning a 94 GMC Jimmy SLT. I have had problems with the EGR valve too. Paid big bucks to have a mechanic rev ti up to obscene levols while another mechanic puts a steel rod on the EGR valve and beats on it with a ball peen hammmer to "loosen the Carbon" it worked for a day and a half, then back to the shop. I got tired of paying and tried to remove the EGR valve to clean it... only to have one of the bolts break off. Boy was I mad. I had to drill it out and now I have to put a nut and washer behind it to tighten it up. I have read about plugging up the vacume hose and forgetting it. I will try that if applicable, and if that fails I have read about a gasket with a screen that filters out the carbon chunks... thus keeping them from plugging it all up. Hope this helps out any fellow Jimmy owners.

I've had my 1994 GMC Jimmy for about 3 years now, I'm on 152,000. I've only had two problems in the 80,000 miles I've put on it. 1. was the ball joints went at about 130K which isn't a bad amount of mileage. Number 2 my electronic shift 4x4 went out at 151K, but was a simple fix that didn't cost me a dime. That 4.3 still has as much power as when it was new, and I couldnt have asked for a more reliable vehicle. Starts up on a tap of they key even in -30 weather. Considering I bought it for $2,500 dollars and it doesn't have a spot of rust on it it must be a one of a kind!!

I bought my GMC Jimmy new in 1994, it now has 89,000 miles on it. The car has been a workhorse, but needed a EGR valve within the first year I had it. Since then it has been pretty reliable, but the body is rusting fast. I've seen similar Jimmy's on the road with the exact same rust patterns, around the front wheel wells, on the lower portion of both drivers doors and a small spot near the rear hatch window. The A/C needs a recharge after 10 years and the power window on the drivers door is going. I wish the rusting problem wasn't so bad, but other than that it's a great truck.

I just got a 1994 GMC Jimmy SLE with the 4.3L Vortec. Paid $1400 for it at a local dealer, who said he just didn't have time to fix all the trade ins... well, $61 dollars and a front-end alignment later, I love it!! no problems at all. I will look out for the EGR problems. It is a good, heavy truck. Real GMC-Like...

I just bought my 1994 GMC Jimmy about a week ago now. It's really in good shape; not much rust and I like the way it drives. But today I was on my way home from work and it started to run kind of rough. I thought it was the spark plugs, so I gave her some gas to make sure, then it went away, so maybe it was my EGR valve. Also my heat gauge stopped working yesterday.

I have a 1994 Jimmy with 220,000. Only problem really was the spider injector line cracking. While I had the intake off, I can see why the EGR has problems, the port hole was almost full of carbon. It is starting to get the rust bubbles around the front wheel wells.
