"Oh so many problems"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Get ready, this is a long one.

Exhaust pipe fell off at 90,000 miles.

Have put two new starter switches in.

Replaced all plugs at 60,000 miles.

Trunk lock has suddenly disappeared.

Alarm very rarely "chirps" back.

Alarm will occasionally trigger and go off for no reason.

Needed new o-ring.

Replaced oxygen sensor at 100,000 miles.

Car is now in the shop because it does not start when it sits in the sun.

Locks on three doors have come off.

Car currently needs a new clutch, ignition switch, and overall new wiring.

Cup holders are absolutely useless.

When using cigarette lighter, it pops out and flies into the backseat (I'm not kidding, I have to hold it in so I don;t set the darn car on fire!)

The side paneling on the car is currently super-glued on after mysteriously falling off.

The overall wiring in this car is crazy - my "check engine" light comes on all the time, now my airbag light is on - which will cost another $500 to fix.

General comments?

This is an overall unreliable car - it is crrently for sale because I never know when it will start. I've sunk about $4000 into fixing it already.

Things I like:

Trunk is huge.

Has pretty good pickup, and fun to drive when it's running.

Great turning radius.

A good-looking car.

1. The car isn't fast at all.

2. Mine has an electrical problem. Baterry Dies for no reason.

3.The front-end needs to be redone.

4. Good on gas.

5. Not much else to say about it it's a nice car, but needs fixing up.

I guess I have an anomaly of a car, mine is very reliable. I bought it with 100K+ miles on it and have had thousands of miles of reliable motoring. Yes, I have replaced the ignition switch, double-side taped the side moldings on and changed the tires and brakes, but on what car with this mileage is this type of maintenance not necessary? Sorry to hear you have so many problems, not all VW's are lemons...

The dealer told me that the first 100k miles are the hardest, and after that they are great. What a bunch of crap though. I am not gonna keep this one past the first 100k, because it is in constant need of repair since 60k miles. It is now up to 79k. I have replaced front bearings, now the back needs to be replaced as we speak. Needs new plug wires $140 for wires is ridiculous! airbag light is on, clutch replaced, clutch cable broke, brakes, etc. etc. etc. I am getting tired of spending all of my extra money on repairing this crate. It was a pleasure to drive, and trunk space is great, but damn! gimme a break. Now they tell me that I am soon going to need to replace the timing belt for a mere $695... ACK!!!
