Drivers side lock stiff, fixed by fiddling with it.
My last car was extremely unreliable and virtually bankrupted me in repairs, I can't understand why anybody owns BMW's they are poor.
I purchased this car because of its stunning looks and its attractive price tag. I thought it would make a good stop gap until I can get out of debt. But have fell in love with it since I have had it.
Its one of if not the best looking hatch backs out there. Plus the engine is a miracle, I went on a rolling road to make sure it was running OK after I bought it, the 105bhp developed showed the engine was in good nick. No smoke and passes emissions test with flying colours. I bought this car as a stop gap, but actually think I will be keeping it for a few years yet.
The car is nippy too for a 1.5 it car beat 9/10 cars from lights and revs so happily to its rev limiter at 6500rpm.
If your out there driving a boring beamer or the all too common focus, trade it in for one of these and then take several long distance holidays with the money saved. I know I will when I pay off the ex-wifes credit card bills.
I agree totally with the review! I have owned a 323f for about 18 months now and still like driving snowy (it's white and drives?) I have read several reviews and I am glad to see that everyone is enjoying the old Mazda's lovely shape and feel. Shame on Mazda for not keeping with the style and introducing that horrible new shape and badging it 323f...
Hi, I have just recently sold my BMW 3 series last week sad as it was it ate petrol and service was expensive.
I am really considering a mazda 323 or mx-3 and after reading your write up I really want one.
Hi all. I own a 323 1.5 GXi hatchback 3dr. Its reliable, super nippy, quicker than a ford focus 2002 1.6l. Its got a sexy shape. Top end a little lacking. A ton 28 is the best I've had the balls to do. Its cheap on insurance too. Mazda have some of the best engines going. Used to have a 323f 1998 1.5 GXi, but I am happy with this super hatchback. Takes the piss out of old clios and saxo's.
Get one. You may have difficulty as they are rare.

Wow - this car is just amazing. I have the 1.5l model also (5 door hatchback). I bought it in May 2005 (its now Nov 2006) and it just keeps going and going. It has 150,000 mile on the clock and from what I can see (and hear) performance is great, I'm still getting about 35mpg (and I drive it fairly hard).
It starts first time, every time, without fail. My mum had the previous model (1.6l, with pop-up lights, great car too) and I just love the looks. The only thing that I have dome with this 11 year old car is replace the radio, but that's because the original had no CD player, there was nothing wrong with the original one. It's fairly amazing if you think that an 11 year old car had electric windows, speakers in rear doors, and loads of other gadgets which all still work perfectly. Some higher end cars with all these fancy gadgets, well lets face it - the fancy gadgets kept breaking - but not with the old reliable, affordable Mazda.
Some people say that a problem with Jap cars is that the parts are more expensive than others (Reno, Ford etc) but here's the thing - Nothing ever breaks - so in fact the Jap cars are cheaper to run and service.
The only negative thing I would say is that if you are over 6 foot tall, it might not suit you as it's a sexy low car that suits my round 5.4 figure perfectly. I for one am going to keep this Mazda for as long as possible and then buy another one after that.
I also have a mazda 323 1.5 gxi 3dr hatchback and they are incredibly rare and an excellent drive I haven't actually got my license so I've been using it to practise and its been a dream I will definately be getting another mazda when I've finished with this one and the car is 10 years old, but easily competes with the cars out there today and no one leaves me at the traffic lights and yes i only drive with my dad in the car with me and i also use l plates before anyone groans lol.
