"Not a good car at all - will never buy another Dodge"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The service engine soon light came on not long after we bought it (64,00 miles or so) and no one could tell us what was wrong. The said it was the alternator, but a year later we still had the same one with no problems.

The fuel pump went out around 75,000 miles and we were told it is common in Dodge Caravans. It was $500 to fix.

The a/c had a slow leak and had to be recharged every year.

The windshield wipers would come on for no reason and the delay system in them didn't always work. They were suppose to come on once every few seconds and would go three or four times instead.

The a/c would also come on for no reason while we were driving.

The lock on the sliding door stopped working and wouldn't unlock with the power locks.

Transmission went out at 89,000 miles with no warning. One day the van just wouldn't go in reverse when it worked fine the previous day. We were told it would be $1400-$1600 to fix.

We were finally told the service engine soon light was coming on because a cylinder was misfiring. We weren't given a price for that.

General comments?

You are not alone. My van had all problems you had except a/c. And my van just had 'service engine soon' and 'air bag' on the whole day today. I might send the van to repair next week. I won't buy this var any more.

I also have had numerous expensive problems with my 97 caravan. The fuel pump as you described with filter 350.00, the sensors 2 in one week 200.00, and wipers also coming on by themselves. mind you this is just in one weeks time, not to mention all the other hundreds of dollars I have put into this van since I got it. Not even a year yet. And still I have a date with my happy rich mechanic as to why my engine keeps misfiring and my check engine light is still on. I really tried to keep a positive outlook and gave every benefit of the dought to dodge. But I give up. I can't afford it. I wish someone would compensate me in anyway even with an apology from dodge will satisfy me right now. But I guess I have a better chance winning the lotto, I see that I am not the only one with on going issues with these cars and I see others have spent a whole lot of more money than I have with rebuilt transmissions and all, some even had their engines rebuilt twice in one year, COME ON!!
