Although it's an old car, me and the previous owner had a very small number of problems (none of them serious) with this car. Below are the worst ones:
The driver's glass works poorly, when closing it makes a weird sound, and sometimes it needs the help of my hand to close.
Some interior plastic parts suffer vibration at certain speeds, making noises specially on bad terrain (80% of the streets of Brazil are horrible).
One of the great points of having this car in Brazil is exclusivity. Mitsubishi Lancer is an extremely rare car around here, and Lancer GTi is so rare that I've never seen another one.
It has an outstanding performance for an 1.8 car, it accelerates faster than 98% of the "standard" cars in Brazil (only beaten by Audi A3 1.8T and Fiat Marea Turbo).
The interior space is huge (larger than a GM Vectra), and its quite comfortable for an sport car.
It's very good to drive, except in the heavy traffic, because the gear pedal (the left one) demands great efforts to be pressed.
Finding the performance specifications for this car is very hard, even Mitsubishi didn't answer my e-mails asking for it. After searching a lot, that's what I've found:
Power: 140bhp
Top Speed: 210km/h
Acceleration: 0-100km/h in 7.6 seconds
Fuel spendings (urban) : 10km/liter.
Well, maybe for you the interior is huge and larger than a GM Vectra, because for me who have owned a 1995 Lancer GTI 1.8 Manual for two years until replace, in July of this year for a 1995 Vectra GSI 2.0 16V SFI. Because, my big complain about that car was the poor rear legroom.
Also depends about the height of the person. In my case for example: 1,88 Cm.
I Don't know about you, but every time I got in inside of the Mitsubishi, my knee hits the steering wheel, even with the adjustment, the driving position wasn't so good.
My wife hated to drive that car. But if you think it's comfortable, well maybe is because you are short.
The lancer 1.8 gti model 94-96 in 7.6 sec from 0-100km/h. haha!!!
If your lucky you can get it in 8.6 sec from nil to hundred kilometers per hour.
If you really want to make the mitsubishi lancer fast you have to buy a 1.6 turbo engine from a 92-96 mitsubishi mirage (not european model). But this can also be fitted in an 1.3 or 1.6 mitsu lancer.
Replying the comments:
Yes I'm short, I have 1,72m. My legs almost hit the wheel, but they don't and that's why it's OK for me. Maybe that's because this car is from Japan and Japanese people are short also.
About the 0-100 in 7.6s: Of course my car will not make it so fast, because it's almost 10 year old, that time would be for a new one.
I found the specifications about the Lancer GTi!
0-100km/h in 7.6 sec
Top speed: 210km/h.

I have one Mit Lancer GTi 95 and I have 1,92m. My car is so strong and powerful. Ihave two another cars and this MIT IS MY FAVORITE. I don't change this car for nothing because i'll never found one one who gives me all that this car offers.
I just purchase a Mitsubishi 1995 Lancer Gti, a blue one. I'm from Brazil too. It's seems to be a fast car in the second and first gear, but from third to fifth its too slow. My car has more than 170.000, but it was first owned. Please send an e-mail to talk about the car parts that I need. apturbo@pop.com.br.
Well well well I own a 1990 mitsu lancer gti it is the fastest car for a while I have owned I bought it on ebay for £92.00 went to leeds and drove it back after sitting undriven for 2 years and it came down the m1 like a bullit I took down an x5 bmw a 323 bmw a 200 kompressor merc and was beaten only by an audi rs6 but as soon as he, but traffic I was right there. this car is not for the faint hearted and this completely standard I have big plans for it so look out for it on www.cardomain.com soon. Ryan from london.
I'll like to know how much it cost this car. I saw on the Fipe list (www.fipe.com.br) that the average is R$13.419 is that real??? I can find a car in good shape that will cost this?
Another thing that I was wondering is about that maintain, is it expensive?
I'm from Serbia. I've got lancer '92, 1.8gti. It ran like a bullet. 0-100 km/h7.4.I replaced the engine 1.8 with 2.0 dohc from eclipse, 150hp. That is the best thing that I have done in my life. Now, it runs 240km/h, unbelievable, but true. I don't know its acceleration, but it is much faster. With 1.8gti it was faster than suzuki swift1.3gti, opel calibra 150hp, golf 3vr6 2.8L, honda crx 1.6dohc, and now it is faster than civic 1.6v-tec 160hp... . THAT'S MY BABY
I from Bandung, Indonesia.. I have '95 Lancer GTi,, wow I love the acceleration..!!!I change the clutch with ACT full racing clutch kit, header (custom), ECU with HALTEC E6X, add turbo charge kit (piping custom), inter-cooler, fuel regulator, MSD electric charge, RALLY ART Cam 180', Pistons kit, ignition kit, double MSD racing coil, ALS kit, etc.
And you know??in competition I had 9.5 sec. for 402M,, that's MONSTER POWER GUYS...!!!
