Transmission problems right away.
I bought the truck (as-is) on Saturday
, drove it about 100 miles and transmission starts slipping going from
2nd to 3rd. I heard about these transmissions and wish I would have listened to them. Dodge should have a recall or honor fixing them. Payed enough for the truck, sure can't afford a new or rebuilt transmission.
Well you're not the only one. Looking on the web trying to find some advice, recall info (hehe, right), I know, how bout a buyer for this truck of mine. Anybody interest. How is the Dodge stock doing these days.
My 99 dodge 1500 has only 50,000 miles on it and the tranny
is slipping bad after it warms up!
I wish that I had listened to other guy's talking about
how bad the transmissions were on dodges these days!
We need a recall bad!!
I love my truck... But one day out of the BLUE my transmission decided to not accelerate, i stopped to let my sister out and when I pressed on the pedal to start moving I went no where. I put it in low 1 and drove home extremely slow. I let the truck sit for a few days and decided to try it again and it drove just fine. I have not had that problem ever since, but the transmission seems to be very confused as to what gear it is supposed to be in. I would also like to add that when I hit the slightest bump it feels like the steering is shimmying. PS my brother has the same truck and his tranny never recovered from that slipping state, and his steering feels exactly like mine. His truck is a 2001 and mine is a 1999.I just want to say that I do love my truck and when the tranny goes I will upgrade it somehow. I have only owned chevy trucks, but I am sick of changing motors due to main bearing KNOCKS on cold days. Granted I change my oil every 2000 miles. I will try my luck with dodge.
Hi, can anyone tell what transmission is in a 1999 4x4 auto with over drive? Is it the tf727 or what. My truck has 104K on it and the trans just quit, slips so bad it won't pull itself. Found a outfit in Arizona that deals in rebuilt transmissions, I think its my only solution. Any advice welcome. thanks Mike H.
I myself have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 and the tranny just stoped working one day just wondering if any one has found a decent deal on a tranny.
I own a 1999 Dodge Truck 4x4 and about 5 weeks ago my torque converter failed at about 74,000 miles and it cost me close to 3,000.00 to fix it. I have had it back about 3 weeks now and when I put it in reverse it is making a winding noise. My new transmission and torque converter has about 1,500 miles on it. I think they need to do a recall on these trucks!!!
I have a 1999 ram 1500 4x4. it has 100000 miles on it. you need to see it to beleave what I do with my truck. I pull a 30ft fifth wheel camper. my gross weight is 15120 all together. this year I went evan further than last. I pulled my fifth wheel along with a golf cart behind it to pigion forge tn. I have no problems withthe transmission at all. my best guess is if you driver 55 mph I have leared that this puts a strain no the motor. so I drive 62 at least. and when I have to drive 55 or slower in overdrive I take the overdrive off. the rpm range they have it set at is not real god for the transmission. realy lugs the motor at 55 and only 1500 rpm. if you look at the gears you have you will find you have 3.55 in the rear if you were to change it to 3.73 or 3.92 which I am going to chenage mine to just due to the fact I ran out of gears going into tenn. and was in first gear at about 4500 rpm truck will work great fro you if you keep these things in mind.
I have also had a bad run of luck with Dodge Pickup transmission's I have a 94 Ram 1500 with a 318. The first owner had the transmission replaced sometimes before I bought it. I purchased the truck and drove it for 6 months and the transmission went out. I bought a used one and it was no good either (don't buy used one's there usually all wore out too) so I had my original one rebuilt it costed me $1250.00. That was three years ago and it has gone out again. I do feel Dodge makes great pickup's I have never had one problem out of the motor it's still just as strong as it was the day I bought it. I would even consider making my next pickup a Dodge, but I scared of having to replace the transmission every three years. Most people like me just can't afford to do that. I wish dodge would find a way in correcting there transmissions. And would make an after market transmission that has been corrected for older model owners at a reasonable cost since it was their mistake.
Thank You
James Cooper.

My truck has 150,000 miles on it and the tranny started to slip a little. I got one of those proformance chips that allows you to adjust at what rpm your tranny shifts and I haven't had the problem scence. All I had to is increase the rpm's at which it shifts and it shifts cleaner and crisper than ever.
My dodge is 2001 and I had it for 3 months it has 71000 miles and my trans threw in the towle it started slipping and won't move they should do something about it I now I am not the first to have this problem.
I have a 1998 Dodge Durango. My Dodge just reached 90,000 miles. I just replaced the transmission. Have been having some problems with it for a short while, have never heard of so many Dodges needing their transmission replaced so early in their life. There is a website that you can take your complaint to. I do not know what it is just yet. A friend of mine is pursuing a law suit against Dodge. His engine just died on him and he has needed to fix things here and there on his engine and transmission from the beginning of owning it. When I find out what the website is, I will post it. Thanks!
Hey all you Dodge fans or enemies,
I have recently bought a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4+4. After reading about all the transmision troubles I admit I am a bit worried. I use the truck for commercial snow plowing and hauling a trailer. The transmision is doing good along with the engine. I change the trans. filter and oil every fall before the snow season. The engine gets it's oil changed every 3,000 miles. The truck has 110,000 miles on her and she is a work horse if I ever saw one. I will continue being a Dodge fan until the truck dies do to faulty manufacturing. But just a thought to all of you who do have the transmision trouble, did you ever consider special ordering a new transmision from Dodge or from Allison Transmisions. It might be expensive, but it could solve the problem if it is possible to do.
JUST A THOUGHT
Chris Auker.
I have a 99 dodge pickup I have owned since new. I have used it for towing in my business and other things, but one thing I did was have the transmission flushed every thirty thousand miles. It now has 140,000 on it and it is starting to act up after gets warm, but I am going to take it in and have it checked and cleaned again. Hopefully it does not come out of the shop messed up.
I own a '94 Ram 2500. The transmission stopped at 130,000 miles. When I went to the shop I was told there is check ball in the fluid line near the cooler. In my case this check ball stopped the flow of fluid and parked me. I had two options, replace the lines or knock the check ball out of the line. I chose to remove the check ball because even with a new line there is knowing when it will clog again. I do not have enough miles since repair to say if this is a good fix, but it made sense to me.
Dear Dodge Fans.
I have a 99 Dodge 1500 4x4 and she has a 5 inch off-set body/suspension lift, 315/75R16 on 16' Rock Crawlers, I have 456 Gears in the front and rear differential along with Lock-Rite Lockers, for the engine I have a Air Intake system from e-bay and a throttle body spacer from Air-Raid. I love my truck, but it is very costly. I have owned my truck since 69k miles, 10k miles afterward I replaced the engine. Due to putting in 3 qt. of oil every 200 miles. My transmission started slipping at 100k and I replaced it with a rebuilt at 105k miles. My rebuilt transmission has a shift-kit I assume stage 1 and the tranny is giving me problems it seems that it doesn't know what gear it should be in, it jumps extremely hard around 10mph-20mph at slow idle, when you give it gas it seems to be fine. When on the highway at high mph (70) it runs fine, but when I get off and come to a complete stop it seems like it is still in a high gear. My third engine I replaced from Grooms not, but a week ago and now my check engine light comes on? My mechanic said that my governor in my Tranny is bad and that is making the light come up. Now my engine is whining like it has a turbo on it, only when the check engine light is on.
My last resort to fix these problems is to buy a hyper-tech power programmer for my truck (400$) and try to fix these annoying problems. I didn't know that putting 456 gears, lockers, and over sized tires would would really mess my truck up these bad! If I had to do all again I probally would have stayed with the 33' tires or 285/75R16's, I didn't notice all these problems when I had those size tires on there. If you have similar problems or want to try and help me out as far as comments please feel free to email me @ josiah88@hotmail.com
Thanks.
