1984 Chevrolet Blazer S10 from North America - Comments

"Cheapest SUV 4x4 around"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The starter had to be replaced within 2 months of buying this car. It had a problem with getting hot and then not starting again. It left us stranded on a mountain at night.

The radiator leaks.

The motor pan leaked until I tightened the oil pan gasket bolts.

Tilt steering is loose and sloppy.

General comments?

It is not a serious 4x4 truck. It is a 4x4 for the occasional snowfall, or fishing truck. The fuel mileage is not very good. 17MPG approximately. The 2.8 liter motor is designed bad in my opinion. Not much power, but same fuel mileage as a fuel injected full size blazer. It has been reliable to a point. Not good as a commuter vehicle.

I've had an 84 4WD blazer for 2 months, and it sucks gas like there's no tomorrow. It runs good, and has never left me stranded. I'd like to save this vehicle; aside from the gas thing, she's been good to me.

Let's see.. a 1984 Blazer, bought in 2002 with 200000km on it. I can't see how you wouldn't expect to have to fix a few things on it. As to being good only for hunting and fishing... I think that's what it was intended for! You wouldn't race a Ford Escort against a Mustang and expect to win, why expect a small SUV to do the job of a big one?
