4,000 miles - loud popping sounds heard from underneath the vehicle when engine is on.
9,000 miles - engine stalls when in drive.
10,000 miles - excessive wear in the driver side seat adjuster tracks makes seat rock back and forth.
11,000 miles - clunk sound heard and felt when steering while driving.
12,000 miles - transmission shudders, slips, makes grinding noises and slams into gear.
Chevy crammed the Impala LS with lots of features for a good price.
The Impala LS, by today's standards, is a bit underpowered. However, the 200 horsepower 3.8L V6 engine is very reliable and, in my opinion, adequate enough for a car this size.
The automatic transmission leaves a lot to be desired. It is the weak point in this vehicle's overall performance, perhaps because it is electronically controlled. Shifts are slushy and slow. Downshifts are pretty lethargic and if you want better performance you'll have to shift manually.
Overall comfort is excellent. tons of room all over. Interior is well thought out.
Overall, the Impala has a pleasing exterior shape, although a bit aged. The only gripes here are the side mirrors don't fold and the ridiculous red plastic piece around the taillights.
I believe that a lot of people on this site are just trying to bash the chevy name. and not really giveing true reviews.
They must be honda or toyota fans probably.
I am a gm man all the way!!!
Go gm! keep up the good work...
Ps: that's why they are the number 1 car manufacturer in the "world"
I agree, I think there are Import fans here trying to ruin GM's name here, in my opinion that's is not fair, as people reading these reviews depend on consumers who have BOUGHT the car to give a truthful and honest review.
I am 100% GM Man
Keep up the good work GM, That's why their the number 1 automaker in the WORLD!
I have had several GM vehicles over the years and NONE have given me ANY PROBLEMS, because I TAKE CARE OF MY VEHICLE AND DRIVE IT WITH RESPECT.
Unlike others...
Cars are cars. There are reviews from Toyota lovers that have had their 98' Camry since they bought it, then when they get a newer one, they have tons of problems. And are done with Toyotas.
There are also people who had both Toyota and GMs, Fords, and/or Chevys and they have their opinions.
There are close minded and open minded opinions, personally I don't have a preference, and I don't think anybody should unless they have owned both types, or have driven both types for a long enough time to know the differences.
I choose a car starting with fuel economy, miles per gallon, that's what really matters in a day and age of global warming, pollution, and homo sapien-induced animal extinction. Let's not fight over cars, it's rather childish.
Of course some people are just bashing the American cars you love, but a lot of american car lovers are also on the toyota review sites and bashing Toyotas. It's what people seem to enjoy doing.
