The bed is badly rusted inside and out.
Brakes have been replaced a few times.
Gas tank has a hole in it.
Has a lot of power for going uphill.
Can go up a local interstate incline in
5th gear... when my 6-cylinder Ford F-150
needed to be shifted into 4th gear.
Have hauled more than a half ton with no problem.
Have had the same battery for 6 years.
I bought my 88 Mazda B2200 new in 1988, I still have the clipping out of the local paper where the dealer had it for sale.
The original Panasonic battery lasted until 1999, eleven years old. I could not believe it either.
I have the same problem as others with the choke sticking closed and the engine will fast idle.
Since about 3 years old, the smell of warm gas after shut off has been coming from the carburetor. It started about
the same time the choke problem and the slight hesitation above idle showed up.
I got lucky. I had heard a slight vacuum leak on one vacuum line, so I cut it and plugged both ends. This line came from the passenger side of the carburetor, the other end connected to a "thing" on the fender wall. After doing this the hesitation above idle has gone away, but it did increase the idle by about 50-75 RPMs. I don't know what the vacuum line is for, but stopping the hesitation was worth it.
Some mornings if I let it start fast, a huge cloud of oily smoke will come out the tail pipe. Odd thing is, it smells a little of oil and a little of burning plastic.
I have found that if you don't keep the timing adjusted and it becomes too retarded the engine will sound when cold like a diesel engine, almost like a big bearing knock.
