Nothing has gone wrong with this car yet.
A good car, but one problem the cabin is gloomy, not so good quality. the cheap plastics in this car are bad. it does look cheap and nasty.
But it has bags of space in the front and back more than enough leg room in the front and back for those tall 6ft+ people. lots of cubby holes too even another power socket in the back of car which is an added bonus.
A good sound system. but it's a cassette player why they don't put cd player as standard.
There are 6 airbags around the car it's a safe car to be in you would feel safe if anything happened.
Performance is not bad. 0-62 mph in 11.2 seconds and a max speed of 115 mph.
110 bhp to hurl it along it can sound a bit weesy above 4500 rpm. can feel a bit underpowered with 5 adults and a full boot of things. but other than that a good allround car.
It will do about 38 mpg on the motorway at 65 mph. but about 30 mpg in the town.
I too agree the Scenic does sound somewhat stressed anything above 4.500 rpm it's very noisy, it is happier at around 65-70 mph, but........ anything above that it sounds awful.
I wish I had gone for the bigger 1.8 litre engine as I have found it CAN struggle with a full load, it's even worse with the air-con working- that really saps power.
Even so the m.p.g is good, but somewhat better on a long run, we average around 32 m.p.g around the "doors"
Though for a 1600 it can really shift.
The Scenic is a good car, it one of the nicest cars we have owned, but we will not be buying another Renault as we have had a whole load of faults with it.
Well it does seem good when it's not got a full load. I too wish i'd gone for the 1.8l 16v. well I did have a 1.4L 16V scenic. god that poor car was so underpowered with a full load. don't buy the 1.4l model as the engine is noisy and weak.
I have found Since using BP Optimax 97 Octane rating. The engine prefers the 97 Rating over the 95 and it has made a difference to the performance.

I have just bought my 2003 Scenic Expression + for £3000.
You said a CR player would be good; the + model comes with an Alpine 6cd stacker under the passenger chair.
Upto now in my first week I've had to replace the discs and pads, the engine management light came on today, £50 to diagnose, one of the fan belt pulley bearings need replacing, another £80.
The cats had it; still waiting on the £££ for that, and my central locking is so noisy when it locks and unlocks; it sounds like a fault in the petrol cap lock.
Apart from that it's awesome, drives like a dream, and looks the part. Two sunroofs; I love that, and aircon.
I'm getting all the problems sorted, and keeping it for a good few years. I would recommend one to anyone.
