Seems that the Explorer Sport may be a little more prone to problems. We never got that model in the UK... I wonder if Ford knew something was amiss?

GIven lawsuit evidence that has come to light regarding the Explorer's design, the folks at Ford knew their vehicles were both unreliable and highly unstable at any speed.

I don't know what you got but our 2002 sport trac is great and we would buy another one!

I agree with the above. My 2002 Explorer Sport has 98,000 miles on it, and has never had a single problem, and I mean not so much as a "check engine" light. Oh, I did have to replace a turn signal bulb.

Still gets 20 mpg city/25 mpg highway. Best vehicle I've ever owned. Maybe Ford worked some problems out by 2002.
