Well i just had my first experence,i just purchase the raider about week now, was out test drive, and the alt went out, but before that it ran good, replaced alt,had everything serviced, but now I have another problem when it gets to operating temp and at highway speed it boogs and loses power. realy don't know whats wrong yet, but I love this little 4x4 5 speed, so much IF I blow a motor ill replace it with a different one, what ever it takes to keep it going, i know its old and things ware out, hell I have 2001 ford ranger that's broke down twice already,im getting ride of it in june, going to drive the old raider, happy 4 wheelin to you all, ol does any one know where you can buy aftermarket or used parts for the raidr 1987,or know any good web sites on raider parts happy trails.
Just a good all round 4x4.
You need to replace the timing chain. I had the same problem... after you hit about 3 grand on the tach it starts to run rough.
The timing is starting to advance when you step on the gas because the timing chain is loose.
Replace the timing chain and your Raider will purr like a kitten. Actually, it has a power band at 3800 RPM, which is pretty aggressive for a 2.6.
