The dealer I use for my vehicle service is well aware of these problems. Mazda is aware of the transmission problems in this vehicle. I spoke to a tech at the dealership who told me that "it's cheaper to replace a bad tranmission than it is to re-engineer it correctly".
I was particularly disappointed with the handling of these issues. I don't believe any customer should have to replace three transmissions on a vehicle with less than 100,000 miles. I was shocked to hear that Mazda only wanted to pay for 1 transmission. I had to pay for the labor costs for the last replacement.
This person must have got a bad car, or is treating there car badly. How many kids do you have? I love mine, best car I have ever owned.
Hello to all I have the same story with my 1995 626 lx 2.0 automatic transmission the 1st tranmission stop around 30000 mile now my 2nd transmission just stop on me two days ago. my current mile is 127000. any way I'm not to happy with that. best regurds to all 626 owners.
I have a 1999 Mazda 626. When I bought the car it had 25000 miles on it. I have had it 3 years and had to replace the transmission at 68,000 miles. The service manager at Cottman Transmission told me that it was not unusual for the transmissions to have to be replaced at low mileage on Mazdas because they put cheap parts in the cars. As a matter of fact including my car he had 3 Mazdas on his lot needing transmissions. It is a noisy car and the idling is terrible. My regular mechanic said that he could not adjust the idling because if he did the RPM's would soar up. It amazes me that the battery has outlasted the transmission.
Hello, my mazda is a very good car. I bought it when it was 4 years old. It is a 1995, and it has 145,000 miles on it, and it is still in good shape. I love it!!!
I have owned my Mazda for 3 months. Bought it with 109,000 now with 114,000 I need to replace my transmission. Worst purchase I ever made. What makes me more angry I is i thought I was getting a reliable car. Proved me wrong.
I don't know... I have a 1995 Mazda 626 and trust me, I have put it through some bad stuff!
However, the only real problem I have encountered is when I put it into Park or Neutral from Drive/Reverse. The rpm fall very low before returning to a normal 1000.
Besides that problem (which I am looking to fix), the car runs great and all. I've not had to replace the transmission or anything like that! Maybe I'm just lucky (knock on wood!).
The previous owner did pamper the car, however. Lesson: If you must drive a 1995 626, drive it nicely!
I am concerned! My 1995 Mazda 626 (2.0L, 4Cyl) just started shifting hard into 2nd and the O/D light came on. I think I am looking at replacing the tranny based on what I have read about other owners car problems. I have 120,000 miles on this car and had planned on driving it into the ground. I just didn't know that would happen so soon. I will NOT be happy if the transmission fails! I should have bought a used HONDA!
My transmission failed to worked at about 75000 miles. I barely have about three months with the car. I really like these car for its fast speed and its looks, but I think I really made a bad choice.
My mazda 626 is wonderful, but when something goes look out.
Hi,
I have a 96 626 with over 135,xxx on it. It only cost me $1800. It still has the original transmission. I am very happy with my car even though I have put it through a lot of junk. I've taken it through a plowed field even. It still works great and have excellent handling and performance. You should buy a Mazda if you are looking for a car.
