1992 Ford Tempo GL from North America - Comments

"Don't be fooled by this hell car!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Was my Grandmas car, given to me when she died... thought I was getting a deal.

NO!! I've only had it for three months and..

The tie rod broke.

Leaks transmission fluid and power steering fluid.

Eats more gas than the 4x4 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I used to have.

When I'm on the freeway and try to go over 60mph, the steering wheel begins to "turn" back and forth uncontrollably.

Will not stay in alignment... hence ruins tires.

Battery will not keep a charge.

Last night the driver's side power seat belt got stuck in the front position, and I now have to drive with it across the steering wheel.

General comments?

This is actually my second Ford Tempo.

The last one I has was also a piece of crap, but it was a '90 with many miles, so I thought that was why.

NO! This car is just a piece of crap, poorly made, and it should be avoided.

It breaks down all the time and isn't worth the money to fix.

Interesting I have own 2 Tempos and both had over 200,000km on them with no problems. Consider the car I had before my first tempo was a Chevy Nova that bit the dust a 60,000km, I would consider the Tempo a good reliable car, if looked after properly.

I have a tempo right now, and the thing is sitting in my driveway with every possible thing wrong with it. Rack and pinion shot, tires are bare because its out of alignment, ball joint are shot...114,600 miles on it too.

I agree, the Ford Tempo is a piece of junk. We bought ours second hand. It is a 1992. It worked fine at first, but shortly after, we started having a lot of problems with it. We have put probably $1000 in trying to get it fixed, and where does it sit now? Out in the driveway, unused, because it doesn't want to start most of the time. There is no way I will put more money into this car to try and have it fixed again...It's worthless!

I agree as well, it was a piece of junk. It got me through college, but now it sits in the back yard. With this all in mind how do I get rid of it. I put almost $2,500 into and I want to sell it and get at least some of my money back. Any suggestions?

I bought my tempo for 500$ with new tires. It ran good until a few things went wrong, first I replaced the starter, then my water pump went out, next I cracked my flywheel and the harmonic balancer went out. after that was done I had to get new headlight lenses due to the yellowish color on the lens.so I have spent way more on repairs then the car alone. The gas millage is bad for a 2.3 4 cylinder, but its not horrible. Other than that its acceleration is sluggish and it only tops out at around 80mph.The stock radio system is bad and scratchy, so I bought some after market speakers and 10 inch subs to take car of that. After all the small problem were worked out it ran and still does run great. I would say it is a very reliable car, mine has 230,0000 miles on and is still driving smooth.

My Ford Tempo GL (1992) got the problem that cannot start the engine. After checking, the most possible problem is the starter. I wanna know if it is easy to replace the start by the self, or I have to tow it to the garage to spend a big money to fix that?

Hope to give me some suggestions to my email:fxxzc@yahoo.ca.

Thank you.
