1992 Lexus LS400 from North America - Comments

"The best road trip car, ever"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The syntrifical clutch on the fan was replaced.

I replaced the timing belt, water pump, and the brakes.

The seats are starting to wear, but not excessive.

The display for the clock and temperature does not work. The part is $400+.

General comments?

This is the best car that I have owned. I have read that comment many a time, but it is really true.

The work that I have done on the car has mostly been preventive maintenance.

My car has all options for the year. The air suspension is a bit soft at times, however it is easily changable.

The Nakamichi Sound System is Incredible. It also includes a 6 disc CD Changer in the trunk.

Heated Seats and Traction control are rare things to be found on a 1992 but they are there. The headrests power up and down as well as you seatbelt height is also a button. All power options

are in great working order.

My only complaints are lack of cup holders in the back seat, and the steering wheel has no radio or climate controls. However, I realize that this is a 1992, and these are standard in the current LS 430.

I have a 1992 Lexus LS 400. My car doesn't have the 6-CD changer because the stereo is a cassette player system. But thanks to the Nakamichi sound system, the music is still superb.

Right now my car vibrates at speeds around 60-65 mph. The vibration stops at speeds over 75 mph. Any idea what's going on? Could it be the suspension system, could it be the tires, or do I need to do a balance/alignment on my car?

I'm currently in the final stages of purchasing a 1992 LS400 with ~115k miles. And yes, the LCD clock/temp is fading out, *BUT*, I found a website that will sell you a new LCD for $160 U.S. and they also provide step-by-step directions, with nice clear pictures, on how you can replace w/a new LCD board. If you have good mechanical skills and have ever used a soldering iron before, it looks and should be easy.

I just recently bought a 92 LS400 - - - What a car!!! I understand the temperature control LED is an issue and it was interesting to see the website address on the bargain price of repair for $160. I continue to read other comments of the quiet smooth sound of the engine. To the contrary, mine has a very loud humming sound as it is revved. Idling the car is very quiet. The sound appears to be coming from the fans behind the grille as their speed seems to be controlled by the rpms. Has anyone experienced this before? Any idea what the issue is and what the cost is to repair. Other than this, we love the car and have become huge Lexus fans.

I have 92 LS 400 and it has 188,000 miles on it and drives like it's new. I am selling my 2000 Saab 95se so I can drive the Lexus. I also have no temp control or time LCD and am interested in finding that web site. I am looking for some paint codes if anyone can help. I have the two tone silver and gray model.
