1993 Acura Legend L from North America - Comments

"It is said that I spend more time taking care of my car than on my health"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Changed radiator at 58k, had a leak.

Changed rotors both front rotors, because I waited too long to change brake pads.

Repaired left front arm due to accident

the seat are OK, but have definitely worn out, though not torn.

My front windows do not shut well, you can hear the hissing sound from wind when I drive.

The left-rear window doesn't work

had a hole on the muffler mended

just started getting an occasional noise in the transmission box when initially shifting gears.

General comments?

Bought car from single owner. first car out of college in 1997.

I checked out consumer reports for cars with best wear&tear/depreciation value. the Legend, the Saturn and the Gm suburban were listed.

Used only synthetic oil since buying the car.

I intend to replace a lot of engine parts this summer, just in order to keep the car going. plan on spending 2k-3k. plan on driving this car until it drops dead.

I thought my legend had the most mileage with 217k miles, until I was told by dealership service men they worked on one with 395k miles. now I know I can hit 400k miles with proper and regular servicing of the car.

Of course the engine doesn't sound new or totally quiet, but the car runs good.

Your car with 217k isn't nearly as high as my 1991 Legend L with 238k or my firend's that has 297k. These are bound to last to 400k, like you said. Since we both got ours about 2 years ago, we have replaced the stereos and changed the oil regularly. That's it! By the way, both of our cars purr like the day they rolled off the showroom floor. Consider yourself lucky if you own a Legend. There are no cars like them in reliability and luxury for anywhere near the price.

I am a retired technician with much experience in these import cars and here's a tip for all who have trouble with the windows grabbing/dragging at the tracks and bunching up at the bend just above the outside rear-view mirror. Get a can of silicone spray lubricant with a straw nozzle for directing and generously apply to all the tracks where the glass travels up and down (especially down in the door). It will dry clear and leave no residue, is relatively safe for tint film, and works wonderfully. I've replaced many door window seals, broken window actuators, and burned out window motors simply because the window seals were never lubricated and I've seen a lot of tint film wrinkled right in the front corner because the seal was dry & sticking to the glass.

I owe a 1995 legend l and I got to tell you all I love this car is very reliable. the only problem is finding aftermarket parts for it there are no turbos and all that high performance stuff, but after the high and ups of this car I still love it!!!

I've owned three Legends since 1996. First an 88 LS Coupe when I was in college... I bought it with a 150k and sold it with 250k...I wish I never did. Then I bought a 1991 LS 4 Dr. in 2000. It was all that I expected it to be, fast, reliable, luxurious, a true car man's car. I was devastated when someone ran a red light and totaled it. Luckily I survived so I could buy another one. I just bought a 95 GS 4dr (Type II) in 2004. This is my baby, it handles great, as fast as the coupe, smooth ride, and the best thing about this car is it never goes out of style. I would recommend this car over many brand new cars. It will last forever. Just change that oil regularly and treat it like it treats you.
