"Brilliant"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The driver's side lock only works properly if you lock the door with the key.

The speedo runs fast by about 5-10km/hr.

Heater not working.

General comments?

I picked this car up (priced at $2800) only a few days ago and I'm absolutely thrilled with it. Of course I have been thrashing it around since I got it... hopefully I will settle down and start driving it sensibly soon :)

As has been stated before, the engine is brilliant. My old car was a Toyota Crown which went from 0-100 in about 5 minutes.

The car is very comfortable, especially at high speeds. Economy wise the car seems to be quite good, though I haven't measured its exact consumption.

I prefer this car over a Commodore as it has comparable performace, but doesn't shout out "steal me" when unattended.

I hear that my speedo would be difficult/impossible to fix, since it is electronic. Can anyone confirm this?

A mate of mine has a VK Commodore (3.3L) with the infamous black engine. From what I hear this engine is far (far) superiour. But then his is 3.3L to my 3.0L. So I think it will be an interesting matchup at the lights.

No comparison mate, you'll eat him, he won't stand a chance! Two of my mates have R31s, both more or less stock, both 5 speed, they're a very quick car.

We've had one of them up to 240 km/h and we've had the other one ridiculously sideways from time to time. Naturally, that one's pretty beat up, my mate isn't such a hot driver, hehe.

Sadly, I don't own one, I figured it'd be altogether too silly looking, three of us driving around in R31s, lol. I bought a BMW instead, 1981, 2.8 litre straight six, keeps up with the Skyline's nicely.

Only issues I've found with my mates Skylines are the diff's tendancy to be noisy, and the slack that appears in the drivetrain, noted by clunks when changing gear or backing off, etc.

On the whole, good little bus!

This car has done 197000 kms and other than what I have said in my other comments regular changing of the cooling fluid is a must, but beware that you allow the motor to run with the coolant cap off after putting in the new stuff for 10mins or so to allow any air pockets to be pushed out of the head then top up and put the cap on, otherwise you could be up for a new head or dodgey head repairs that will keep you poor and frustrated. Thanks for listening and look forward to any thoughts on my potential problems.Rob.

Has anybody dealt with the problem of broken manifold studs on the 3.0litre engine skyline before, would be grateful to receive any advice as to how to stop this happening again. cheers Rob.

Hi, I'm just wondering I'm getting a Nissan skyline GXE 3.0L and I want to know if it is a good car overall for consumption of fuel and power as I'm a carpenter and I've had my ute's stolen in the past and wish to have a car that doesn't get stolen, but has a fair amount of power thanks any replies forward to my email rockybalboa69@hotmail.com thanks.

Your speedo runs fast because the size of tyre that the speedo is calibrated to is not available any more.

The tyre on your car is slightly smaller than the original, meaning that it would have to turn more times to show the same speed. As it can't, the speed shown is lower.

The driver side door lock will only lock with the key as a safety feature, so you don't lock them in!

The slack in the drive train is caused by the center bearing in the tail shaft, and can be repaired!

The noise in the diff can be greatly reduced if you add a shim to the drive shaft (pinion)!

Fuel usage is about 50kph for 5ltr!
