New engine at 60000m (sat in the snow for a week and the oil froze in the pan).
New alternators at 75000m, 120000m, 145000m.
New brakes at 40000m, 85000m, 130000m.
Driver's seat is broken (will not slide forward or backward, back with not go up or down, but the whole-seat tilt still works).
Seals on the windows went bad between 80000m and 140000m.
AC Freon leaked out at 70000m, replaced hose. Then replaced the whole AC system at 130000m.
Dashboard warping started at 120000m.
Rear shocks are either broken or barely working (happened after 100000m).
Like most other reviews, I agree that the Lumina is the Bradley Fighting Vehicle of the Chevrolet stable. It's well built and fast. I have been hit by another car and a deer and have only had cosmetic damage while the others have fare worse. Great low end acceleration.
The factory sound system is an awesome bargain. Good bass from those small speakers!
I'm not very impressed with the electrical system. Lights burn out, bad alternator, transmission indicator lights run hot and are uncomfortable to touch after about 15 minutes.
The engine runs very hot so be careful working under the hood after driving more than a few minutes in warm weather.
The ergonomics under the hood are horrible making it difficult or impossible to do average repairs (battery replacement, changing spark plugs, installing a new alternator, etc...)
I own a 92'Lumina and I love the car. It has a nice look to it and is surprisingly quick from a dead stop, but it has a lot of engine trouble, once one thing is fixed something else seems to go wrong. As much work as you have to put into it when it's running good it will fly, I wouldn't ever sell it, no matter how many times I have fix it.
I have a 1992 2 door coupe with the 3.1L V6 and 3speed auto. Its not a euro, but it has every option that the euro has my car runs great. It also has good acceleration, the other day I drag raced a Mazda 3 with the 2.3 engine and left it about two carlenths behind me I was very impressed. And my car handles very well now that I have put on 16x8 inch wheels off of a 93 grand prix. I will never get rid of my Lumina at least not until I save up for a newer car.
