Coil blew soon after purchase, but was replaced under warranty. Problem (like everyone else) with the recirculation lever: since nobody ever wants recirculation, I've jammed it to open.
Other than that, there is only the problem with the carb. The dealer says that this is due to slow electronics, and gave me bigger main jets which helps a little but you can still feel a 2-3 second time lag on throttle repsonse which can be annoying. The problem is worse under load: presently considering work-arounds.
Would therefore recommend people to buy the next year's model, which has fuel injection, another 30bhp, and no throttle lag!
Despite the carb problem, the car is generally enjoyable to drive. The engine pulls away from very low revs indeed with no complaints or stuttering.
The chassis and suspension are good. At lowish speeds, the car cruises comfortably around corners; at high speeds it needs to be driven hard or some rear wheel slide will result. However, driving hard it can do as well as most higher performance coupes.
Comfort and refinement are above average - it is a comfortable car for long journeys, with engine noise reduced but not eliminated (you can't drive a car whose engine you can't hear!)
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Just have the car a week and wow am I in love. My Darling son 2 years old decides he loves the car too and kills the battery when I am not looking. Previous owner became adventurous with electrics changing windscreen washer to the wheel and the horn to the button. I can only imagine the rest of the electrics will provide as much fun. OF course the usual symptoms have arisen door handle damaged, drivers windows replaced, sill broken, rear spoiler discoloured and Air switch thingy stuck on open. Drivers Roof lock (mm Lock) fails to work (need I say more)
General comments?
Got the Car for Half nothing (And in Ireland that is cheap) Wife asking me What do you expect, But Love has set in, A Classic before her time, and having had a respite in Irish weather drove her with the roof panels off and all I can say is go and buy one now.
The Roads I tested her on were windy Country roads (IRISH RALLY CLASS ROADS!!!) and found her responsive to my every whim (Pity the wife does not follow suit!!) and with the roof off, again all I can say is wow go baby, on the route I took there was a fairly demanding hill climb after a hair pin and it pulled the hill fine in 4th. Oh did I mention the Cherry bomb exhaust booming under the car.
To be honest aside from the niggley issues I cannot find fault with her and look forward too many miles of fun.
