Just a few days ago I got into my car and it would not start, I have a brand new battery, (yes there was gas in the car) the only thing I could do to start it was put the key in the shift lock release. Now it does it constantly, which means the shift lock is enabling by itself. I thought the shift lock was to lock the shifter, but I cannot start the car without doing this, sometimes I have to do it 3 or 4 times. When it does finally start the car stays in D3 position (no matter what position the actual shifter is in) so I have to turn off the car and restart it to be able to have the car in Drive.I am really getting fed up I don't know what to do, can anyone suggest anything.
Compared to driving a Tempo it is such a comfortable, smooth ride.
My 90 GS does the same thing.
Sometimes the D3 light is flashing when I try to start it, but it won't start unless the D3 light is solid.
Japanese cars are always better in a manual transmission, but I would take any car over a tempo.
Just had a comparable situation correct with my 1992 integra
it only happens in cold weather... the shifter will not operate properly {i.e go into park and realease the key}
there is a shifter lock switch that goes bad {about $80}
no big deal!
