"Very Good Performance plus Economy"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Radiator had cracked and had to be replaced and the power steering leaks and is getting fixed currently.

Other than that it has been running good.

General comments?

Very nice first car goes great, but can get a little interesting in the wet.

Just wondering, how much was the radiator to repair? did you have any problems with your Rubber seals on the doors and stuff. Thanks.

I just bought a VN at the start of 2005. the door seal on the drivers side was coming off so I bought some glue and stuck it back on.

I get an average of 16L/100Km petrol wise.

At the moment it won't start, and I can't open the bonnet no matter what I do.

I just bought a 1989 VN commodore executive wagon (auto) and I find that the doors and interior plastics etc. tend to rattle and squeak a bit on rougher roads, but this is probably due to the need for new shock absorbers more than anything.

Oh, the other thing. 17L/100Km fuel consumption as stated in another comment seems like a lot of petrol to be using.

My car uses 13L/100Km and it has a sick transmission. The car has done 260000Ks and I thought this was bad economy..

I wonder what other people get out of their vn commodores?

Got a VN Commodore. It chews through 22L/100kms, which is way too much. Just wondering if anyone has any good solutions?

When I bought my 89 Commodore Executive last year I loved it, everything was in great working order. Now all I do is worry about the performance and I don't know how reliable it really is. I had to get a new gearbox put in a few months ago, and it still struggles getting from second gear into third, especially on hills, where it switches between the two gears.

My Commodore is going through a great deal of petrol, even on long trips, Had a tune up not long ago, and it worked perfectly for only a month or so.

I recommend to service this car regularly every six to eight weeks.

Interior is poor, rubber door lining constantly falls down even after glued back on, rattle inside engine, couldn't open bonnet either, I had to pull lever and get someone else to push down on bonnet and then lift up.

I agree with another comment, great car until second gear is reached. Bad in wet weather, a lot of slides on greasy roads.

I have a 90 Series II VN Calais, V6, I too have the same drama with the bonnet not opening without me holding the lever up and banging on the top right of the bonnet, after adjusting the bonnet pins it is now not a problem.

I do Mostly highway k's and I find it to be awesome on fuel (1900 RPM @ 110kmh) 11L/100k's. Gearbox is sick but is HSV enhanced from stock so I am under the impression of it being tougher. The seals and interior are all in great nick apart from passenger rear above window falls down. It has been lowered professionally and I am nearly unable to make the slide (under normal and high power cornering) However my car has had Adjustable Camber plates installed to correct factory tyre wear problems so this may help as it is Very Stiff at the rear with not much play the the front.

All up my Commodore is a great car and havn't had too many issues apart from using 1,2,D in Cold conditions as it just won't go into drive Straight away.

Power Steering and Motor is Great with no leaks (apart from rear main seal) I Run a HPR 50 Grade oil as it's much thicker for her 400,000Km Old Internals.

Either a one off or just been looked after. in saying that I am now up for a new Centre Bearing in the Tailshaft ($44 and I can do it myself)

Best car I have bought for $1800 with 9 months Rego.

Thank you for viewing.
