"This is a REAL 4X4"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing, runs very well for being 26 years old.

General comments?

The number one problem with Scouts is the rusting out problem.. Fortunately mine came originally from Nevada, and now in Southern Oregon. Rust is minimal and body and frame are solid.

The rust problem with the International Scout IS undoubtedly the Achilles Heel of an otherwise truly great 4x4. Here in Australia where I am, the Scout was the most expensive 4x4 when first released by IHC Australia... even more expensive than a Range Rover which set the benchmark for 4x4's at the time.

To add insult to the injury, locally-assembled Scouts suffered from poor build quality as IHC's quality control process at the time was more or less non-existent. Thus the number of Scouts in Australia has dwindled to the point where they can only be seen rusting away in paddocks or farmyards with their powerful 345ci V8 motors still in good running order. What a shame .....
