In the beginning (60.000Km) I did a large maintenance at a VAG garage to check if the car is in good shape. But the employee from the garage wrecked my ignition coil instead, and said it was already like this. Afterwords he gave a remark about my almost dead battery, how nice?!?

At approx. 80.000Km I had to change the whole set of brake dishes and shoes (at another VAG garage) because they were worn out, also they replaced one ABS sensor. Costs 450

I have in the past had an Audi 100 E 1991, an Audi 1999 Disel Red II and now a 1996/7 Audi a4 140,000 Miles which I have just bought a V6. Very strong engine good for 300,000 miles if looked after. I always know audi are good to drive and yes they have niggles, but since the 1.8 engine and the 2.6 engine are both limited to 150 bhp then you know the bigger 2.6 will last since audi are always cautious and this means better wear for you and even the 2.6 I get no less than 30 but up to 36 miles per gallon.

I'm not sure if the newest auidi's are as good?

Any comments?

I know they are even heavier.

But VW from 1998/9 I do not rate since my VW Beetle with 90,000 miles has been a constant problem from new and Golfs of this eara not a lot better. Sorry VW guys buck up your reliability...
