At 33,014 car died in middle of road due to sensors recalls that were not replaced before I purchased the vehicle.
At 43,426 car failed emissions test due to sensor failure.
At 45,549 took car in because when you put the car into reverse then into drive the car feels like it is going to stall and only goes about 2 miles an hour when the gas is to the floor. Took to Nissan twice and they still cannot figure out the problem.
The car just does not feel like it is getting enough power at all. Have taken very good care of car and am very disappointed in Nissan Technicians to figure out problem still ocurring.
Just by looking at the other reviews of the Sentra, looks like you got the lemon one.
Wish I had kept my 2000 Nissan Sentra. Now I have an American Lemon, the Chevy Malibu. Wish I'd read the reviews on it before I purchased. Never had a problem with the Nissan.
I agree!! I have a 2000 Sentra & it has cost me $1,600 in repairs for a mass air flow sensor & also for a sensor for the catalytic converter. I'm very upset - with such a young car that has been well taken care of I shouldn't have these problems!
I bought my 2000 Nissan Sentra from a wholesaler. Immediately I took it to the local Nissan dealer & asked them to check it out & complete all the recall issues. They gave it a clear bill of health & said all recalls have been completed. All the problems that I have had, have been due to recall issues. Turns out none of the recalls were fixed. In January 2004 I had the problem with going from reverse to drive & it staying in 1st gear/no power. According to my dealer it was "Trans Speed Sensor, battery cranking voltage can cause this condition. Battery was checked by Midtronics tester and it failed, replaced battery & revolution sensor". Now 3 weeks later I'm having a catalytic converter, crankshaft sensors recall, and rear-end problems. To say that I've been less than happy lately is an understatement.
We, too, have a 2000 Sentra that kept stalling and dying. After 3 trips to Nissan, and 3 days later, it turns out the Mass Air Flow Meter is the problem. Nothing a $520.00 part and $210 in labor won't cure. Our daughter has a 2001 Sentra that she has had nothing, but trouble with. Nissan again? Not on your life!
I purchased a 2000 Nissan Sentra GXE and have loved the car. However, after the customer service I have been getting from various dealerships and from corporate, I don't think I will ever purchase another Nissan again. At 80,409 miles my service engine light went on. To my shock, I was told that I need a new catalytic converter. Federal law says manufacturers must extend the warranty to 80,000 miles on these converters. And wouldn't you know that Nissan won't help out. Not a penny. I have to shell out almost $1,000 dollars for this repair. All of this for 409 miles over the warranty. And now I notice that a lot of other people are having similar problems with their cat. converters. At this point, I'll buy a Toyota or a Honda next.
I also have a 2000 Nissan Sentra that I purchased used less than 6 months ago. My check engine light came on and I checked Nissan's website for recalls. I thought I was lucky when I got whatever was causing the problem fixed for free under a recall. Then two weeks later my light came on again. I took it back to the dealership assuming they had failed to fix the problem. At the end of the day they call me and tell me it is my MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. It will cost of $600.00 for parts and labor and even if I didn't want to get it fixed that day it would cost me $72.00 to get my car back because of the tests they ran to find the problem. I am very upset with Nissan. My car has approximately 60,000 miles on it.
I will never buy another Nissan again! My 2000 Sentra GXE has had 3 recalls and still runs horrible. The check engine light is on more than off!
Last week I was on the freeway traveling 45 mph when my car suddenly stalled and completely died. I was able to safely get over to the side of the freeway and call my husband. I am 3 months pregnant and the whole experience was pretty stressful and unpleasant!!! After getting my car to the Nissan dealer ship and a $100 dollar diagnostic fee later I was told that my Mass Aid Flow sensor needed to be replaced for the cost of $770.00! My car only has 48,000 miles on it! Parts and Service department was less than helpful. Very sales person like and not service oriented at all. Waited on hold for the 1-800 Nissan customer service line for 30 minutes and finally hung up! This is unacceptable - Nissan takes NO responsibility!
Hi,
I bought Nissan sentra 2000 GXE y'day only, its givving lot of problems, first it died on the road. I called towing service and they have shifted my car to our appartment. I called my dealer he is saying that alternator is the problem to he is going fix that problem. and another problem sensor he has given the word that he is going to replace that also.

Hello,
I have been reading around an I too share the same problem with the transmission the only thing is that it happens from time to time, we have taken in to a mechanic and they found noting wrong with it. The car feels as though right after you put it into drive the car is moving, but not as fast as it is revving and it will not go past third gear and will top out at about 40 mph. We have found that the car will go back to normal after you turn it off and turn it back on slowly turning it to #3 then waiting for the warning bells to finish and then turn on the car. If anyone has any suggestions to help me please e-mail me at Tman1989@msn.com
* Oh, and love our Nissan Cars both of them (a 2004 Frontier & 2000 Sentra) with the exception of this :- (
I owned a 2000 sentra for 3 years, it"s at 140...miles.I never had major problems.I am now replacing the alternator because the bearings is shot, but all in all I would be lying if I said I had major problems. I would not replace my sentra for any made in the US, maybe a 2007 altima S.
I have a 2000 Nissan Sentra, and I took it to a transmission specialist and they said it was a revolution sensors!
It's starting out in 2nd gear and not switching most of the time! You can pull over, turn it off, wait, turn it back on slowly, wait for overdrive to quit blinking, and then slowly put it back into drive... it helps most of the time!
I love my car, but I hate this problem with it!! I don't think I will be buying another Sentra!!
I haven't even got my 3800 payment paid off yet!! It's only at 177000 miles and it's very aggravating!!
