1998 Jeep Wrangler Sport from North America - Comments

"An attractive money pit"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Had to replace the clutch disk at 4,500 miles.

Front rotors and pads wore down and had to be replaced at 13,000 miles.

Bad vibrations at highway speeds turned out to be intake manifold gasket and an injector. Both had to be replaced at 22,000 miles at my cost shortly after the 3 year warranty expired.

The head gasket was replaced at 31,000 miles as well as the rear pinion seal.

Instrument cluster randomly shorts out. Normally, a bump causes it to either 'come on' or 'come back to life'.

Oil sender is being replaced in a few days.

Rear pinion seal is 'leaking' again, so further investigation will reveal if it is, in fact, the seal or something else in the rear diff.

General comments?

This Jeep rides fine, but lacks power at highway speeds.

It's 4-wheel drive capabilities are hard to beat in the snow.

The convertible top, though a pain to lower and raise, is nice in the summertime.

About the instrument cluster: There has been a recall on 1998 models. Dearlerships have to fix this problem for free. Policy of the manufacturer.
