"A nice highway cruising car with a junky transmission"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Transmission went out at just over 10,000 miles.

Error in owner's manual or in dealer's repair manual, as far as required maintenance.

General comments?

I am so disappointed in this car and the fact the transmission went out after only 10,000 miles. The worst part is this could have been a very nasty and dangerous situation as my wife and two kids were in the MDX on at least three occasions on the same day before we brought it to the dealership, when the transmission slipped out of gear and they were making a turn or in an intersection. Luckily cars were able to stop or go around them. An expensive new car, heck any new car, should not need a new transmission after only 10,000 miles. This is my first and most likely last Acura product.

My wife brought the MDX in for the 7,500 mile service and she was told we needed to have the VTM (center differential for all-wheel drive) fluid changed. She paid the $120 to have this done and when she brought it home I looked in the owner's manual and went on line to the Acura web site and both said the first time that fluid should be changed is not until 15,000 miles. I called the dealer and they said their shop manual stated it should be changed at 7,500 miles. So who's telling the truth?

What were the dealer comments regarding the premature death of your transmission?

I have a 2003 MDX and the transmission went after 19,000 miles. Is this problem inherent in the car? I can't understand this happening because they have a good reputation. I guess not any more!!!.

My transmission just went out at 41000. First problem with the car... but a big one. Wonder what would have happened if it went out at 51000. Any warranty or BYE-BYE.

I have a 2002 MDX and the transmission was always a little "touchy". From the first time I took it in for service, my dealer said everything was fine. Finally at about 65,000 the tranny died. Acura replaced it for "free" even though it was past the warranty. This is my 3rd Acura and my families 5th Acura. Although I've had this recent problem, overall, we have been extremely pleased with our Acura's, so much so that we are presently considering purchasing the 2006 RL to replace my husband's 92 Legend with over 180,000 miles.

We just had a transmission problem with our 2001 Acura MDX. It was scary for me as well as my daughter who just got her license. The car kept jerking on the highway and than lost speed in the passing lane.

Anyway, since we have 120K miles, a new transmission is not covered under warranty. And, we can't get a loaner for 2 plus weeks at our dealership in MA, and, we have to pay 35.00 a day to rent a car and it could be 5 days to get fixed. Don't you think they would at least break down and pay for the rental car?

We spent too much money for this to happen. Disappointed to say the least.
