CV boots are very prone to ware and splitting. Plastic trimmings on door sills prone to dropping off. Very prone to stone chips, large frontal area.
Car is all in all great. You can see it has a motorsport background as the car is not painted all that well. Most GSR's were built to satisfy the homologation aspects for the world rally scene. Very hard to get a hold of if not impossible.
I have a question. I just bought a Proton Satria GTi (which is actually a Mitsubishi Colt which was badged Proton due to a tie up). This car was claimed to be the best Proton ever made due to the amazing technology Lotus (another tie up) applied to the suspension. I never dreamt I would ever buy a Malaysian car but after looking at and driving the GTi... forget the Civics, Corollas and Sunnys.
The only snag was due to insufficient budget for Lotus to work on the engine, the 1.8 engine pumps out 138 bhp (119 on a dyno). As such I opted for a Mitsubishi GSR 1.8 turbo engine transplant. The GTi is very quick at high speeds, especially when the turbo kicks in but this is not noticible during the initial 3 gears. There is no oomph as compared to an Impreza (not that I expect miracles), but there should be some kind of thrust. Could the engine be old?
If you have a GSR engine in your Satria, WRXs shouldn't worry you at all :)

About the Lancer GSR (4WD Turbo 1.8) being hard to obtain in whatever country it was. Some of you should move to NZ or Australia. Here we easily get immaculate Jap imports for bloody ridiculously cheap prices. ie a 92 GSR manual turbo 4WD (usually with very low ks) averages around $9k (3000 pounds).

If your GTi Satria with a GSR motor doesn't beat rexs, then you're either not running enough boost (easily solved :) ) or can't drive mate!
Go the GSR/Evo group! Bunch of hard lads! (Luznit is a nutcase). Very informative for all Lancer/Evo information.
Hello..

Hello I've recently purchased a satria gti and have already began the modifing process, I've replace the exhaust system for a free flow version and have changed the air filter for a piper cross vortex induction system the problem is the idling has become very rough even when I've put the original air filter and housing back on it still bad.
WHAT CAN I DO???

Yeah I got a gti with a gsr 1.8ltr turbo in it and it eats v8 for breakfast and the rexy's also, but wat I have trouble is wid the bigger cars like 180's and vl turb's, but other wise my car is really quick for ts size being a 1.8 compared to others but as soon as you make mods you start spending money and that dosn't stop... go the gti.
In general:
Was a great car when I had it, its great for general day use, shopping picking up kids from school etc, and always started first time, and engine run sweetly, however was low powered as only had 73bhp which I found poor for a 1.6 litre engine. Rear leg room was reasonable for the size of the car, and driving position was the best had so far (Surprising from an old car.) Fuel economy was o.k. but terrible if ever thrashed (Usually to keep up with other traffic). Spare parts were dead cheap, due to popularity, and engine maintenance was easy, like building a mecano set. The single point fuel injection seemed a great part of the astra sluggish starts; multi point would have come in handy, for fuel economy and getting out of those tight spots quickly.
Handling and performance:
Handling was disgraceful, under steers everywhere, and the body rolls more than my friends motorbike does. This car should NEVER be raced, as crashes are inevitable just keep it slow and all is fine, treat it like a baby. I got a very impressive top end speed of around 115mph out of it going down a long slightly sloped strait road. 5th gear is an overdrive gear as the revs hardly change so recommend only using 5th on a motorway. Whenever revved out in full throttle, it always used to give a HUGE back box raw from the exhaust, it was fitted with a brand new system by Vauxhall when we bought it from a dealer, it was not blown it was just one of those things that happen on all Vauxhalls (Including our vecra) which was a bit embarrassing as I felt like I should have been wearing a tracksuit and a cap.
In responce to the GSR proton/WRX comments, he was saying that the proton didn't feel as quick as an impreza in the first few gears. The is understandable, it has no AWD like the scoob, their just grip-n-go, no give on traction at all, the proton probably loses a bit of grip, you can't always hear tyre squeel. And are you forgeting how quick WRXs are? Too many people underestimate them because they are on the bottom rung of the perfomance scoobys, but WRXs (including uk models) are faster than the cossie's were, even to 100 mph. And are on a par with the escort cossie. and you know how fast they are, So don't be surprised if the proton doesn't eat WRXs, theirs nothing wrong with it, its quick, but not quick enough.
