Bought it 3/29/03 on 4/1/03 would not engage in Drive.
This happened 6 more times in the first 25 days of ownership.
On 4/10/03 vehicle would not start.
We purchased this vehicle because we liked the looks. A nightmare from day one and Colonial Mitsubishi and the Regional Rep Gary Cassidy were obnoxious and arrogant. They did nothing to repair the vehicle.
We went through the lemon law and won a total refund. At the exchange Mr. Cassidy tried to get us to sign our title over without filling out the buyer information. We refused. This is a way for Mitsubishi to bypass the title being stamped as a lemon. We called Consumer Protection who finally told Mr. Cassidy they would hand the case over to the state attorney general, so they agreed to put 'Mitsubishi Motors' as the 'buyer' on the title. Beware of this company and their practices.
I wanted to write to add a short comment to the review regarding the Montero Anniversary Edition "being unable to engage in drive". I just purchased my 2003 Montero a few days ago and soon realized that you must apply some (gentle) pressure to the brake after starting the engine to be able to disengage from park into drive. If you do not have your foot down on the brake you cannot go from park into drive or even reverse for that matter. There is nothing wrong with this aspect of this very unique and well designed vehicle.
