1994 Subaru Legacy RS from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"Fast, powerful and sticks to the road like glue!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Clutch needed replacing the week I bought it.

Gearbox seized and needed replacement.

Drivers-side wing mirror flapping around.

Flywheel came off the drive shaft!!?

Exhaust mid-section rusted out at the join with the rear section.

Serious over-heating in the engine bay would be reduced with the fitting of bonnent vents (take note subaru - Evo has them!!) Caused varioous hoses to become brittle and split.

Engine making "pinging" noise when turned off.

First stage turbo needs replacement.

General comments?

This car rocks!!! My wife hates it so it must be good!!!

Even with it's problems I always have a smile when behind the wheel, but I'd suggest some basic modifications if you're planning on buying one.

I've added really hard STI WRC suspension which makes it drive like a WRC car, and also a big bore exhaust, removing the catalyic converter first! A high-flow fuel pump also increases power by about 10%. Quite pricy mods, but well worth it for the inceased performance and enjoyability.

Not a car for the faint hearted, and it needs to be driven quite hard to get the best response from it, otherwise it can feel a little hard to drive.

Mate you are right about it being hard and fast as well as the wifie hating it, mine loathes the one I just bought.

I fell in love with this vehicle in the first 10 seconds of test driving. I also find that with a few minor mods you have got a really descent 4 door rocket at your disposal which always comes in handy when approached by evo's and the like... Thanks for the great review (a bit harsh in places) joking.. Have a good one.

Hi..I brought a RS B Sedan 12 months ago. Great car, wife loves it, as you say, they go like a rocket. Added a big bore exhaust, sounds great. I have no problems what so ever so far, very happy.

They are great cars. I have owned mine for three years now, and have done some mad km in it.

When I got it, it had 89km on the clock, now it has 190km.

All I have had to do is put a new cam belt in, and it's about due for another one now.

I had to replace the gearbox, but that was my fault. I was playing and put a boost controller on the second turbo, and was cranking 22-25psi for a couple of days, and then I was getting cocky and snap changed into 5 at 180km, which was fine till I went to change down, and it didn't want to go out of 5, it was there for good LOL.

I am amazed the engine and turbos are still good with my driving hell. It hauls even harder when it's doing 20+ psi LOL.

The only thing I do is warm it up before I drive.

Love the car.

Thinking about buying a 1994 Subaru Legacy with 200,000 miles.

Sounds as if the present owner took decent care of it. What should I look out for???
