"Nice car, many annoyances"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The first thing that went wrong was with the door on the passenger side. It refused to open at random times, and of course when I took it to the dealer it wouldn't act up, and they couldn't find anything wrong. Never figured out the problem... just seemed to resolve itself.

Next problem was with the pressure gage in the gas tank. It kept setting my service engine light off. They fixed it once, then 2 weeks later I had to take it back to have them fix it again.

Next the horn went dead. It started off as not honking when the steering wheel was turned, but then became worse until the horn didn't work at all. It took the dealer nearly 2 weeks to fix this problem. Luckily it was under warranty. However when I returned my rental car, the dealer didn't take the car back like they said they would, and I was charged another $50.

Then I was having this awful squeaking noise in the brakes. I took it in once and they said there was nothing wrong, even though you could hear me coming from miles away. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and took it in again. Again they told me that nothing was wrong. I had to argue with them for quite a while to finally get them to fix the problem.

My most recent problem is that the low coolant light keeps coming on randomly. And also on occasion my car just flat out won't start. If I leave it alone for 15-20 minutes, then it will start. But as always..."nothing is wrong with my car."

General comments?

I strongly recommend buying the extended warranty for this car. The dealers give you the run around on the car's problems. They waste your time, and charge crazy amounts for labor only to say that nothing is wrong. I get lights coming on in my car all the time, and little kinks pop up frequently. Nothing extremely serious has happened yet, but lots of little annoyances.

Driving this car is great... it handles wonderfully, and turns on a dime. It's got quite a bit of get up and go.

I am terrified to keep my 2000 Alero. I haven't had any problems, but with the rotors. After reading some of these comments, I think I'll pay off my car and sell it. Why are cars so cheap these days?

I have a 99 Alero GLS - I LOVE IT! I have 76,000 miles on it and will keep it until it falls over. I have had a few little problems, but all in all it was a great purchase. I feel I got a lot for the money. My dealer was very helpful about fixing problems so that did most assuredly help keep my frustration level down. The biggest annoyance was my coolant light kept coming on... they finally reset my computer and it hasn't happened since.

Basically, I am told "they don't make em like they used to" so most cars will have bugs... expect it...in this day and age of make it as quickly and as cheaply as possible - you can expect a few T's to not get crossed and a few I's to not get dotted.

I have a 2002 alero..I've recently had the low coolant light come on occasionally.. most of the times when I gas it or go up a hill...today, my car wouldn't start.. this is the 3 time this has happened to me.. it just won't turn on at all..I'm getting pretty annoyed about this alero. I think they should have a recall.
