Strange noise appeared during driving; wear off noise from seat.
Dashboard has vibration during driving.
Rear sunshade create noise.
Vibration or damping of shock absorber is no good, damping is too HARD.
Power window not functioning properly after 9 months.
Bolt or screw loosen!
Service center could not trace the problem which i'd issued! they only receive the money and say thank you or claims that the problem is common!
Bad handling in sharp corner, unbalance!
Horn not function and damage after 9 months! cause me to replace at other service center for RM30!
Front passenger's safety belt being placed wrongly. This cause the belt to twist when the passenger pull the belt. What the heck are PROTON DOING?
This car is not a good car! Low quality, need to improve and lot of modification! Don't ever buy this car unless you has a little budget. The price is expensive also!
Air-cond is OK.
LOW QUALITY!
Ya... I agree what you are said...
I also have a new proton wira with a borsh engine...
More worst compare to last time because the computer is not match with the engine...
That is why it create vibration when air-con on (mechanic tell me 1)
i strongly agree what you say!!!
The gen 2 is supposed to be a wira replacement model, but ironically it has turned into a wira replaced model. this is because of the slow production, the higher price.
So gen 2 is definitely going into another disaster as it faces challenge from its own perodua and wira. Others will go for the more reliable waja. At the same time, we don't know how much mitsubishi contributes to gen 2. it is coincidental when mitsubishi pull out of proton, gen 2 production slowed.
On the other hand, thailand is becoming the car centre of the east, ironically, they don't even need a national car.
Looks like you are a driver that demands a lot from your car. I understand that yours is a 1.5L Auto?
OK, let see...
You complained that the shock absorber is too hard? well, me being owning one, would say that the original absorbers aren't any good. replace them with gas ones.
Power windows? you can't complain. wira has bad reputation on that part. remember, it's a 1.5L auto, its already under-powered (due to the torque converter in auto cars), you really can't expect much.
Bad handling in sharp corners? I disagree. for a car that make and specs, it handles relatively well. hmm... I suggest you change the rims and the tyres. a minimum of 14x6jj rims should work. (well, my friend uses this configuration and his happy with it)
For a car this range, dare say its the best. you must learn the limitations the car can achieve. remember, RESPECT the car and it WILL perform for you.
I myself bought a Proton Wira 1.5 auto 2003 and have found nothing wrong with it. I love this car and the cost for it was great. If people want more they should expect to pay a lot more.
It is by far the worst car I had ever owned. My clutch gave way after using the car for less than 15,000km (less than 2yrs) and it is not under warranty.
Hi.
I looking for a new car.
But seems the price is out of my budget, so I plan to buy a used car. My cousin recomended me one Wira 1.5 auto, year 2002, the loan rate is 4%. Deduct the 5k deposit, I have to pay another 35k for the car. Can I get any advise from you all out there? thanks!
I have the special edition and all kind of funny noise came in for just about a month. Clutch is worn out less than a year.
We are overpay for Proton cars. Calculate it by yourself, if imported car is not highly taxed, what will be its price? Compare to Proton... ya, you figure it out.
I have a WIRA auto GLi 2001. I have use it for almost 5 years, trouble free... goes on and on. It is quite comfortable compared to my previous Iswara (use for 7 years) also trouble free.
Hey guyssssssssssss.
I heard Proton is gonna stop the production of Wira... so there won't be any more Wira la... but don't know how true it is... can you please put some light on it if you know abt it?
Thanks.
According the opinion from most of foreman (coz they always touch with these local cars), Compare with the Waja or Gen2, Wira is more stable and reliable... Example, Waja always facing power windows, low quality internal material problem... Although wira is belong old/ past model (1993!), but till now is only O.K. one! (Japan design/part used)
I'm a owner of a Proton Wira 1.5GL (auto) plus I am an auto-mechanic. My car are registered on early of 1997, so it was the last badge of 4G15 carburetor engine. After that proton started to build 4G15 engine with Fuel Injection/ Computerised System (MMC Computer Box), then around year 2000 proton again change the fuel & ignition system to a system commonly know as SIEMENS VDO.
I didn't find anything wrong with my car except for worn out (oil seals, timing belts, absorber, arm & bushes, hoses & some of the rubber parts) & serviceable parts. With a little modification it can go 160kmph. With my front absorber spring lower 1.25 inch, it can attack corners in high speed (150kmph MAX). The rear spring high & absorber are still original. I'm currently using 14R5.5JJ sports rim with 175/50R14 tyres. Still the auto-gearbox is just 3speed (low topspeed)
The problem of proton car starts around 1997, same time with they start to use the fuel injection system. Proton starts to cut cost on the parts, so many of the proton wira owner (1997-1999) will suffer worn out absorber, bushes & throttle body gear/ housing problem not long after they purchase their car. After 1999 the problem just get form bad to a whole new level- WORST. Since the MMC F.I. is costy for them, they started to shift to new F.I. system (SIEMENS VDO). I don't know whos design it is, but I'm sure it's poor in reliability & quality. The engine always die off during low rpm (slow down/making a corner) (throttle body problem). The ignition coil will cause the car jerking from time to time & the crank sensor just will went off (car cranks, but won't start). Then proton have cut the cost for metal material, so owners will hear cracking sound from the chassis, poor cornering performance & low body rigidity, poor engine material such as engine oil leak from cylinder head gasket, poor piston rings & pistons. The same time Proton left Denso & Senden Air-cond system for UCM Air-Cond system, the result: the air-cond fan motor & the radiator fan motor will not last more than 2 years, then the air-cond pump... no need to say lah.
So if you want to buy proton cars... buy the old ones or think twice before you buy the new one. Any problem or question you can e-mail me at jienn_@hotmail.com.
To me Wira is a bad quality car especially its fittings, absobers, electronics, plastics and etc minus the engine caused its from Mitsubishi... If we earn much I don't think people will consider buying it... Buying a Proton in Malaysia is far more expensive then in UK couple with its import model quality and accesories are far better than local made.
To conclude my opinion is Proton is ripping our local peoples money saving cost giving us bad quality parts in local made cars to invest and made a name for themselves in UK and the rest of the world... so we are indirectly been used to pay good stuf for those foreign Proton owners...
Anyone comments e-mail me at will_kit@hotmail.com.
I have a 10-year old Proton Wira 1.5. It consumes fuel like drinking beer! The exhaust is badly coated with soot. I'd sent it twice to Proton Centre to check the carburettor, ignition timing etc. Atlas! the mechanic said the carburettor is the best type, but it can't be tuned. The air intake and timing are good. I only got myself 2 bills!
Can anyone help please, when Proton can't?
I suggest that you check your exshaust manifold for cracks as it is covered and can't be seen and most of the time hard to trace... check on your exhaust piping for leaks as well...
Hi guys.
I bought a 2006 Proton Wira 1.5 manual, which was just delivered to me in early August 2006. However, to make up my nightmare, it starts to give me problems even in just 1 week of bringing it home.
I fixed sport rim and tyre 195/50R15. The next day, the rear left brake starts to create sounds like 'dup'dup'dup'dup'dup' whenever I press the brake pedal. The sounds are much clearer when I brake at low speed like 40-30km/h. Well, probably the brake pad or the spring not in place inside the drum. But I'm confident the problem is not due to the sport rim or the tyre.
I would appreciate if anyone who has experienced this problem could help me out. Thanks..
