"Makes me never want to buy an American product again!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Broken window operating system.

General comments?

The driver side window clips broke on my 2002 Grand Am SE. The catch is that one of the clips is connected directly to the window, therefore requiring the entire window system to be replaced which is around $500. When I called a Pontiac dealer regarding this I was told this happens all the time and that it's normally on the driver side window.

Another friend of mine with a Grand Am GT has the same problem. Pontiac is aware of this major defect, but has done nothing about it. I've called Pontiac directly regarding this and so far they have done nothing.

I own a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am and have had both the driver and passenger windows replaced. I contacted General Motors because I felt that this was quite unusual for the window clips to break at 20,000 and 30,000, respectively.

General Motors indicated they would make a note in the "record", but they were not aware of any defect in the window operating system.

It's nice to see another documented case of window clip problems.

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT as well. I just took it to the dealer today for problems with the driver's side window. They informed me that it is the Regulator and that it is going to be $380.00 to have it fixed. Is this the same problems everyone else is having with the window?

The same thing happened to me. I own a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix, and a year ago the clips broke on my driver side window costing $400 to replace. And last week my passenger side window also broke from the same thing. This is ridiculous.

I also own a 1999 Grand Am. This has just happened to my driver side window. First, I thought it was just off the track, but my husband took it apart and said that the clips were broke. I know of three other owners of Grand Ams and said they have had the same trouble. If this is such a problem with these cars, it looks like Pontiac would recall this. I have not had it fixed yet and by reading all the posting it might be a while. That is Expensive!!!

99 grand am window clip is just bad engineering

seems as though the rear clip unbonded from the glass and finally the glass fell off the clip which destroyed all the cheap plastic parts that hold the window up.the problem seems to be the bonding of the glass to the clip which may have been marginally adequate if not for the wild offset bracket that connects the clip to the cheap dollhouse plastic rail guide/trolley. had the plastic trolley been made out of a higher grade plastic or less the stupid offset it probably would not have twisted the window clip off the glass which by the way is not glued to the window at all/some king of heat self bonding plastic.

I have a 2000 Grand Am GT, the window just fell into the door. I took it apart and found the same thing. I did get the replacement window sash from a GM dealer for $7, I was not about to give my hard earned money to a dealer to find out that "my regulator" or something is bad. (New regulator from GM is about $250, one on ebay is about $70)

I have a 2000 grand am GT, in December of 2004, I replaced the entire regulator assembly since the motor was shot. It is now a year and a month later, and the clips are broke on the used regulator assembly that I bought... it had little use. I CAN"T FIND THESE LITTLE 10 CENT CLIPS ANY WHERE!!!

I purchased a 2002 Pontiac Gram AM Se. The windows have been replaced about 5 times. This is ridiculous!!! Just happened again tonight. Now both of my windows are not working and my drivers side is taped shut. I will NEVER buy a Pontiac again.

I'm looking at a '02 Grand AM SE and it is not power windows. The ones you are talking about are manual right?

I have 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE... same thing with driver side power window.. window fell into the door, when I took apart all of the plastic clips are broken and I can't find them anywhere. Not sure if I need to replace the regulator now as well.. I heard that when the clips break they cause the window regulator to break. This is great!!!

I own a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT. Surprise Surprise, the window clips broke in the driver side door and I had to replace the entire regulator and belts because the belts stretched when the clips broke. This cost a pretty penny (over $500). Two months ago I had to replace the sensor on the pass lock security system. It kept my car from starting. That was about $500, too. I also, will NEVER EVER buy Pontiac again!

I own a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT and I too have the same problems with my windows. Both the driver's and passenger's window clips broke. I, too cannot afford to replace both of them. I had a friend fix it temporarily.

Here it is for you all. Here is the link that gives you the part number so that you all have to buy the plastic clips, not the entire window regulator:

I hope this helps.

I also have a 2000 Grand AM GT and had the window motor on the drivers side replaced a year and a month ago. Well, I took it in to a GM service center and they told me they could probably slip it in under their repair warranty and 10 hours later they still didn't replace it and said it wasn't covered under the warranty. Poor customer service. I will never by a GM vehicle again. RC-Texas.

I am having the same problem!! Because the clips are plastic, they break so easily! I found out, that the plastics clips of the regulator can't be replaced, the WHOLE thing has to, this is very upsetting. I called the dealer and he said that it would be $350 to fix!!! That is ridiculous for a piece of plastic!!! It is very upsetting that Pontiac knows this is happening, but does nothing about it, it should definitely be recalled after all the complaints I've seen.
