Needed spark plug replacement. Nothing else to
date.
I loved my Sonoma truck, But needed more room and comfort. This Cadillac is 10 years old, but offers a speed sensitive suspension and tighter steering at highway speeds. The 4.9 is quiet, offers plenty of power and reliable. Interior is butter soft leather with room for everybody. Factory Bose CD has excellent sound. Plus so many comforts make this a pleasure to drive. However, a thirst for premium fuel is a price to pay at 15 town 25 highway. Road trips are fun again and everyone else out of the fast lane. Love the trumpet horns.
I would just use regular unleaded gasoline. It will also do the job.
I do not agree. If you use Regular Unleaded in this Car you will end up with burnt valves.
If it dosn't 'ping' or act down on power, regular is just fine. Sometimes the computer will set the timing back so burn a few tanks, if there's no difference keep right on doing it. IT WILL NOT HARM YOUR ENGINE!!! Modern engines (At least in this case) have knock sensors that will protect your engine. At most it may go slightly down on power (if even that), if you can live with it, save your money and continue. Just keep an ear open at first for pinging to be sure. Even if it does, you can than try Mid-grade.
Just to be safe, try regular for a tank or two. If no problems, continue. If it pings at this point, fill up with Premium again just to be safe. After THIS tank try Mid-Grade. If that don't work stay with Premium. This is just precautionary as I really can't see a problem with Regular, but as the old saying goes: It's better to be safe than sorry!!!
Den.
Hi I have a 91 Deville with 4.9L I mistakenly put in regular gas... The car acted up so bad... it died on the freeway
I have a 92 deville with 140k that has ran great for the past 5 years. The car stated running bad. Took it to 3 different shops. the car has had a full tune up, fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel injectors checked, and some other minor things. They can't seem to figure it out. Here's what it's doing. When cold it runs great after it heats up it's like it has a dead spot when on the gas a little. Sometimes it will stall or just serge. While on the highway it runs great. but stop and go driving runs like crap!anyone have any ideas?I would be grateful because I don't want to get rid of the car that I enjoy so much.
I own a 1993 cadillac sedan deville 4.9 port fuel injected v8 I bought this car from the original buyer 2 years ago its grey with red interior and the only thing that's gone wrong with it is at 150,000 miles the alternator went out cost 150.00 other than that the only problem I have with it is the gas you can put regular unleaded in as long as it don't have more than 5% additive of ethohol or any thing else once I made the mistake of putting gas that had more than 5% and it burned up my spark plugs and wold not run after going down the road 5 miles so you can put regular unleaded in as long as its from a good gas station like bp chevron shell exxon, but if its from a little cheap gas station owned by a couple of iranians I would not get my gas there other than that the car runs fine it will go 0 to 60 in 6.3 sec and you gotta love the excellent sound system it has.
Hi I have a 1993 Sedan Deville I have done minor work on
It. I put a new alternator, new muffler, new spark plugs,
Rotors for the brakes, within 3 months. My problem is now,
this ANTI-LOCK Light stays on and I have no idea why. Does
Any one have any suggestions.
You can check with Caddy Dealrship, they know what to do and will fix this problem.. Good luck!

The 93 Deville I own has been ran on 10% ethanol unleaded for at least the last year by myself and the previous owner without any problems. The octane of the ethanol fuel is 89-90 usually which is close to the 91 octane minimum the owners manual for the car recommends be used. The car has over 160,000 miles on it and seems to run better than a car I bought that had under 50,000 miles on it.
I have a 93 Cadillac De ville with 116,000 miles on it. Fuel prices in my area are quite a bit higher than most of the country so I decided to take the risk and am glad I did. I have run it on 85 Octane and never have had any difficulties, only regular maintenance. I save 20 cents or more on every gallon. I believe that the engine can run on lower octane fuel because of the elevation. (5k above sea level)

I have a 93 De Ville and have used both reg. unleaded and mid grade. It runs fine on both, but gets better mileage with the mid grade. Average 15 mpg with reg. and 18 with mid grade. My thermostat went bad and wanted to know what temp would be the best I feel the 160 would keep the motor cooler, but the factory was 185 will the oil temp be too cool and get sludgy? The car has overheated, but That is most likely cause of the stat being bad. Any help would be great.
This is very odd. I have heard reviews saying that this car runs fine on 85-87 octane. Other times I've heard that this 4.9 NEEDS premium because the timing is so advanced and THERE ARE NO KNOCK SENSORS ON THE 4.9...REPEAT NO KNOCK SENSORS!!!
This means that the computer will not detect the problem, and will not retard the timing to stop the knocking. I have heard that running 87 octane will ruin this motor. I am going to try a tank of 90 octane on my next fill up to see how this works. I will report back later.
Hi, I wrote the comment directly before this one. Last week, I ran 90 octane in it (midgrade) and the motor runs just like it did before, and got 2 mpg better, which means I got 16 mpg last week, doing the same driving, to the same places. Yesterday, I put in a tank of 89 octane, and so far so good.
I've got a 93 4.9L Sedan Deville and I've only been averaging 12-17city 20-25hwy. I think it's because I removed the catalytic converter. (more flow = more fuel).I fill up with regular and add a bottle or two of octane booster. If I don't add the octane booster mine spark knocks like crazy under load! I don't know of any long term effects of spark knock, but I'd add a bottle of octane booster if yours does it just to play it safe. Oh yeah, Cat. removal definitely increases fuel consumption, performance, and gives it an entirely different exhaust note. I could get 30+mpg with the Cat in place, now I only get 25ish. (on the highway).
USE OCTANE BOOSTER TO CURE SPARK KNOCK!
I have a 1993 cadillac deville with 175,000 miles. I have run regular in it since I purchased it in 2002 with 114,000 miles (it was a salvage car). Car has run fine over the years, with just a tune up, regular oil/filter changes every 3000 miles. Alternator replaced last year. A/C out after condensor struck and punctured by stone on highway last summer. Only problem with car at this time time is a sticky drivers door button outside and inside the car. I only average about 18 mpg - mostly local driving, and I disconnected TPI unit as it makes car run rich and mileage drops to 14 mpg.
