2003 Toyota Highlander Limited from North America - Comments

"Other than the wind noise, it's great!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The only thing I am unhappy about with this car is the wind noise that happens when the back windows are opened and none of the front windows are open. It is deafening!

General comments?

In general, I love this car! It is extremely comfortable, lots of leg room in the front and back.

It has great visibility and is a smooth ride.

I bought my highlander 1 month ago and love it. it's a 2003 limited. I have no faults to comment about. I read some peoples comments about the wind noise, but I don't have any problems with mine. its was worth every cent.

Its roomy, its fast on pick up and space is more than I expected. Its also a good looking car and attracts a lot of attention.

I am getting a lot of exercise because I have to park far away from other cars.

Almost every four door car that I owned had the wind noise when the rear windows were down and the front windows up. Opening the front glass usually reduces the drumming effect. I just added a 2005 Highlander Limited as a second car to our 2002 Avalon. They both have some drumming sound with rear windows down. Anyway, considering our past experience with Toyota products (our old 1988 Camry is still in use at nearly 300K with no problems) I will keep the rear windows up while driving and enjoy the rest of the car and ride!

Own a 2005 Toyota Highlander with the rear "drumming" noise

when windows rolled down. Dealer tells me it's the tires, I

need new ones (after 20,000 miles???). So I get all new

tires and the noise is still there. Took to a private auto

mechanic and he looked at everything -- wheel bearings, etc. etc. and he concludes it's a wind noise. Now I'm taking it back to the dealer to see what kind of "excuse" they give me.

They'll probably tell me the brand of tires is making the noise or the fact that I have 6 CD's inside the car is making the noise. I am disappointed Toyota is not fessing up to a noise problem. I am still scared to drive at high speed on the interstate to work and back everyday. I think Toyota is hiding something.

The Highlander is so sluggish and slow that "high speed" driving hardly seems a matter to be concerned with. It has got to be the turtle champ of the SUV crowd.

Almost every car will have a drumming noise with the rear windows only open (if ALL windows are open there should not be a problem). I have this problem with my 4-door sedan and it is definitely air resonating inside the car when the back windows are down. I've driven the Highlander and found too many other problems with it that I opted not to buy one. They are terribly under powered, even with the 6, and the ride and handling were way below par. We went with a more solidly built, rear-drive SUV.
