The model of the van is AM = AMBULANCE.
The chassis is heavy duty, it weighs approx 9000lbs. I am not getting good gas mileage, this is the first diesel I have owned. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do to increase the mileage?
The van is extremely comfortable with leather seats.
I purchased the van to use on vacations.
I am slowly making the transition from ambulance to cargo van.
The van has a/c in front and rear, cabinet space and was fully equipped to run as an ambulance with lights and radios when purchased.
Does anyone know where I might look for a manual for servicing.
Thank you.
The 7.3 is a great engine. the best thing you can do for this engine is service it. Change all the fuel filters and the oil often. Glow plug would also help.Don, t be afraid of the glow plug it's simple. The 7.3 isn't a economy engine, but it will go on for ever. Check out Ford or International
for the service manuals. Also International has a scanner that will read and adjust anything on your engine ie, road speed, max rpm etc. Good luck.
Disconnect the AC belt for better mileage. If you need AC maybe just disconnect it in the winter. Ebay has everything - try to get the Ford factory service manual.
The above comment is one of those automotive myths that refuses to die.
Removing your ac belt will do NOTHING for gas mileage or power. When the ac is NOT on, the pulley on the compressor freewheels and the drag is negligible. The only time taking the belt off the compressor is of any benefit is if the bearings on the pulley are starting to go, in which case it is better to have the belt off before they seize up altogether.
Otherwise taking the belt off is a complete and utter waste of time and effort.
