The motor shut down WHILE I WAS DRIVING (69 miles new). Had to have towed to the dealership on my second day of ownership. Oil pump failure.
It remained in at the dealership for 4 days until they found the problem.
Poor power and economy due to computer problems. 2 attempts to re-flash computer have failed.
Horrible fuel economy for a diesel. I am getting only 12 mpg (no load) and only 7 pulling a 7500 pound boat. My 99 dodge diesel made 18.5 mpg around town (no load) and 11.5 mpg pulling 14000 pound fifth wheel.
Shakes, smokes and surges after warm re-starts.
There are only a few things I like about this pickup. It looks great, has a very roomy/comfortable interior, has great brakes and five speed automatic transmission.
Had it in the shop four times in only 3500 miles.
My Dodge was trouble free for the 63,000 miles I owned it and it cost $12,000 less. I miss my Dodge.
I also have a 2003 Ford F350 Crew Cab with the New 6.0 Diesel.
It has been in the shop on average of every two weeks. I am only getting 10 MPG. The computer has been reflashed 8 times and it starts with a Check engine light on every cold start. The local dealer is not being up front with the systemic problem with this engine. I have talked to other owners who complain of poor fuel economy, rough Idle stalling and generally poor reliability. What gives here?
I have a 2003 F350 crew cab diesel.
Or I had one last month!
I was getting 10 to 12 miles per gallon. At 3015 miles the turbo failed. The bearings shattered and were sucked into the engine. The truck has been at the dealers for three weeks awaiting a new engine. Neither Ford nor the dealer would supply a courtesy car. I am considering giving them back the keys.
My 2003 F350 ran fine for about 12,000 miles. Then it would lose power and struggle to maintain 60mph. Stop, turn it off, restart, and would run fine for a while.
Took it to the dealer that sold it to me and he tried to act surprised. I showed him all the printouts of known problems. 5 days later I got it back.
Back for a week and the check engine light came on. Bad sensor and not the latest program. Not sure what they did the 1st time.
12mpg is the best I've seen without a load. 9mpg with an empty 3 horse slant trailer.
Wishing I had a Dodge.
I Have A new 6.0L and it has 25000 miles. I have had no problems and have gotten as high as 21 mpg when you keep your foot out of it.
I completely agree with the previous comment I think that this is a great truck I was getting around 20mpg when driving reasonably and getting around 16mpg when towing a 30ft fifth wheel one thing I could recommend is getting your turbo inlet and outlet pipes checked there is a recall out.
The new Ford f-350 6.0l is the best diesel anyone can own, it has no promblem pulling my 14,000 pound trailer or what ever I need it to do. The Duramax and the Cummings cannot even compete with the 6.0l. So when you see a Ford cruise by going 70 and you are only going 50 you might want to reconsider your truck.
Top review. If you like Dodge so much, go get one. And if you are gonna sit and put down Ford, maybe you should considder the fact that your Dodge Cummins has absolutely no where near the amount of power that the Powerstroke does. And unlike the Cummins, the Powerstroke is kinda quiet.
Why must these "men" as they call themselves complain about the fuel economy of the Super-Duty? It's a truck. A big one at that. It's expected of a vehicle of such size to guzzle fuel. The Cummins is a dwarf compared to the Powerstroke. Go ahead and stay with dodge... and deal with their transmissions.
Actually, the Cummins is not a dwarf compared to the Powerstroke. Here are the facts in this discussion, the Powerstroke produces 325hp and 570 ft/lbs. of torque, while the Cummins produces 325hp and 610ft/lbs. of torque. Looks like the Cummins "dwarfs" the Powerstroke when you talk torque numbers.
I have an 03 6.0liter. I bought it for use as a truck not a 35mpg sedan, If I wanted that type of mileage I would have bought a foreign car. This truck pulls my three slant load trailer w/living quarters around the states w/no problems. I have had minor issues, but then every thing in life does. Enjoy the truck and would not hesitate to by another one.
I own a 2006 f350 6.0 at 3500 kms the master cylinder went on it. Then the pedal sensor.
Then the steering box came apart, it was replaced then I had a headlight wiring problem.
Then the stitching on the seat cam out then the reverse lights and backup sensors stopped working now I have three bad injectors that make it have no power with 6 - 8 miles per gallon on the highway.
Buy a Chevy don't waste you money.
I own a 2003 FORD F350 DUALLY and I wouldn't change it for anything in the world. I am a cattle farmer and I haul a 30 ft trailer loaded all the time. already clocked 290 000 kms on the thing and have had no problems, the only thing I changed is the sensor, which was normal for that much kms and it was cheap anyways. As far as fuel economy, I defeintly don't mind it, it gets better economy than my escalade, without a load 17 mpg is normal. WOuld not even thing of dodge or chevy as their trucks are ugly, and have lesser towing capacity, and not nearly as reliable. for those who argue this just check whos selling the most trucks?
06 F350 Duallie POWERSTROKE and 6 Speed Stick with 4:10 posi,29317 miles and not a problem. get about 17 mpg driving normal, about 11 stompin on it. put a 4" turbo back HOG PERFORMANCE EXHAUST on it to keep the egt lower for long turbo life. the ZF trans shifts great, seats, steering wheel, etc. are very comfortable, engine is very quiet, truck rides great considering the camper package, best piece of truck I ever had. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
We bought a 2003 F350 and as soon as we drove it off the lot the check engine light came on. We were told that the hyper chip was the cause, that the chip burnt out the ford factory settings and that we need a new pc, there were unable to bring it back to factory settings. Installed the new pc got it home, and let it sit, started 3 hours later, there was the check engine light and was running worse than when we brought it in the first place. stalls out just like someone turned the key off. as other have said, yes at 70 mph, not a really nice feeling, idols hard, realizing it's a diesel has an awful bad knock in the morning and plugged in, they blamed it on the hyper chip, sounds like a trait for this year! I will be sure to pass that on to the dealer that is trying to fix it right now.
I just traded my Range Rover in for an 03 F-350 4 door dually. This truck is obviously not stock and it has so many options and accessories in it. Plain and simple this truck is beautiful. First diesel I have ever owned. This thing has amazing pull and pick up. I don't know what kind of turbos they come with, but it has a few treats in there some where. The turbo that is on there now is a Garrett and the tubed are different. It gets 15 mpg with a load or without one. The fuel economy is better than my Rover and 50 cents a gallon cheaper. All I can say is awesome awesome awesome. Looks like some of us got some good ones and some of you got some bad ones.
