My transmission failed at 34,000 miles.
The factory-new transmission that replaced the original failed at 1 mile.
It had a great ride.
It was quiet.
It had a nice sound system and air conditioning.
It was the best looking mini van on the road.
It needs a third transmission.
I just found out that my 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport is going to need major transmission work at under 40,000 miles. Unfortunately, the warranty ended at 36,000 on a vehicle that I was assured is one of the best minivans on the road. It is going to take 3-5 hours of labor - which I need to pay for - before I even know what's actually wrong with it. Great news, right.
Here is a list of problems that we have experienced with our 2002 Grand Caravan which we purchased new.
-at 5000 km the A/C compressor fell apart
-at 10000 km the fuel valve needed to be replaced
-at 14000 km the power steering hose ruptured and then there was a recall to replace the whole system
-at 15000 km the sway bar link was replaced
-at 29000 km the sway bar link and hub bearing was replaced.
The alternator failed at 67,000 km. The plastic covering is comming off the lettering and the driver side power window quit working.
You're better off with your Caravan's than the Honda Odyssey's (a million more problems)
My 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan at 46,000 miles started to lock itself. It didn't matter if I was driving down the road or if I was stopped and pumping gas. My husband backed it out of the garage so he could work in the garage and it locked the keys in itself. Luckily we have the second set of keys and key fob. My worst fear was that my 2-yr old would be locked in. I took it to the dealer and they said it was fixed after spending $170. Two days later my 2-yr old was locked in with my phone and extra keys. I was very, very upset at the least. Anita Lorenzo Jasonville, IN.
