"You will get more satisfaction fueling your barbecue with £50 notes"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The radio did not work from new.

Water leaks into the car.

Alarm kept going off.

Central locking sometimes did not unlock.

Engine mount (top) failed twice resulting in air conditioning compressor hitting front subframe.

Made a grinding noise when reversing, going around corners.

Interior trim very flimsy bits had allready fell off when car was only a week old.

Drivers seat started to sag.

Automatic transmission was very reluctant to change up.

General comments?

We ordered the car new in Aug 2002 the top of the range " Monaco " with leather seats etc..

We had to wait 12 weeks for delivery and finaly got in October we had not got home from the dealer and the radio had stoped working

the next morning we found puddles of water on the seats and floor it had rained that night

we took the car back to the dealer and spoke to the salesman and he said " not my problem go and see the service dept! " anyway after a couple of weeks the radio was replaced they could not find the water leak and sugested drying up the water with towels!

By this time the car was nearly a month old the alarm and central locking was now playing up the dealer could not find the fault even though the problem occured in front of them. The problem with the engine mount was eventually found and the dealer replaced and all seemed fine for a couple of days.then the fault came back the dealer answer was it must be the driving conditions??? perhaps they are not designed for normal roads? by now the car was going back to the dealer about once a week.

The interior trim started to rattle the armrest came off while adjusting it and the dash shook when you put it in drive!

Generally the car was hopeless and the Renault dealer was pathetic

We bought this car as family transport with the thoughts of reliability and the peace of mind of a three year warranty, but This was the worst car / investment we have ever owned things got that bad we sold the car in Feb this year 2003.

A THREE YEAR Warranty MEANS NOTHING IF THE DEALER Won't ADMIT THAT THE FAULT EXISTS OR CANNOT FIX THE FAULT.

Great review... I have only just got SHOT of my Scenic.

It WAS the worst car I have ever owned. It was roomy and practical, but in terms of quality and fit and finish it was absolutely shocking.

My car was just as you have described your Scenic, the build quality was very poor, our Scenic continued to go wrong the whole time we had the pile of junk.

It all seemed very good initially, but things soon turned rather sour, and the whole 'Renault' experience was a complete shambles, as was my local dealer, who were simply NOT interested.

With God as my witness I shall never buy another Renault- it was big costly mistake.

I am now very worried because I am about to take delivery of a new Grand Scenic Expression with 1.5dci engine. However, both the showroom and demonstrator cars seemed well made as did a Scenic II taxi I rode in in Spain earlier this month. Fingers crossed!

I have not long bought an X reg Scenic Monaco and found it to be fantastic! No problems at all. I had a very bad crash in it a couple of days ago when a car crashed head on to me at about 40 miles per hour and I was doing about 25. Both airbags deployed and I am glad to say that I walked away with just bad bruising and shock. Needless to say the car is now a write off. I also had my 7 month old in the back and he didn't have anything wrong with him at all. I owe my life to Renault as the guy in the other car was not so lucky and suffered extensive injuries. I am now desperately looking for a new Monaco as it handled very well and is very safe.
