At 2350 miles had problems switching gears into 3rd took the car in and was asked if I new how to drive a stick and was told it would take 2 weeks to overhaul the transmission at 3000 miles gear shifting bigger problem in first and second and third still waiting for a new transmission to replace the new overhauled one.
Love the car, but have little faith that this one is not a lemon. Are other Element owners having any of the same problems?
Afraid I have to ask the same question! Do you know how to drive a manual shift? Honda as a general rule doesn't make lemons. Just look on the highway at how many there are. Next time maybe you should consider an automatic. My wife and I are on our 6th honda vehicle in the last 16 years and the total out of pocket maintenance costs for repairs (not scheduled maintenance) is probably less than a $1000 and never anything as severe as a transmission and/or engine overhaul.
I had a 2003 Element EX all wheel drive and automatic. Recommending an automatic is bad advice. Expensive transmission trouble at 25,000 and no support from my dealer or Honda. Terrible tire wear and poor fuel mileage for a 4 cylinder! Thankfully, I recognized what a toad the Element is and traded for a 2004 Dodge Durango with a hemi. The average town and road mileage (with a hemi!!) is only 1.5 mpg less. Trip mileage is actually better. The Dodge has been perfect in reliability and has 35,000 miles on same set of tires with 5,000+ left. Only 16,000 on Element with original Goodyears and replacement Michelins.
