I just recently purchased this vehicle and something is wrong with the turn-signal/high beams switch. When I switch the high beams on sometimes the headlights turn off completely.
The check gauges' light always comes on, was well as the check oil light.
The low coolant level light went on and I filled up the coolant, and it will not turn off.
It is so far a pretty nice car and handles well.
I was actually wondering if anyone could help me out with the low coolant level light problem. I bought the car used from an acquaintance of the family's and did not get an owners manual with the vehicle. If anyone has any suggestions or answers to what the problem might be, email me at Lyddie21@hotmail.com. Thanks a lot!
The "Low Coolant" light problem is pretty common on GM sedans.. I had the same problem on my '89 Celebrity. It's annoying, but will not affect how the car runs.
I have a 98 Achieva SL which I recently bought for $380 and I had the low coolant light on. I had to replace the radiator which was leaking and it seemed like the low coolant light went off after awhile (I guess it senses to make sure there is enough coolant/water ratio). I'm extremely happy with the car although there's quite a lot to do on it. Good luck with yours.
The check gages light on my 92 has been coming on since I bought the car. Common problem on these cars. Low coolant light came on for me because of a leak in the heater core. After filling the coolant, light stayed on for a few days. Suspect air bubble around sensor.
I have a 94 Achiva S. The coolant light came on in my car a few times, I checked the level of coolant and filled it when necessary. Recently, the water pump died causing the car to over heat. I would suggest getting coolant system looked at. The test can be done for about $30 and may save you a lot in the long run.
My 1994 Oldsmobile Achieva S overheated one day and the coolant light stayed on. I had the dealership check it out the following day. They reset the button and I have not have had any further problems with the light coming on, but I do get nervous idling in traffic. The engine heats up quickly! I have had a few problems since purchasing the car, but it is so stylish that I forgive its shortcomings.
First, I had the headlight/cruise switch replaced. it had melted the wires. I could smell them burning.
Secondly, I had the car stall when I suddenly had to brake hard at a high speed. The dealership disconnected the torque converter. I have had no problems since this.
Thirdly, my driver's automatic door lock gets stuck in the lock position and I need to move it manually from the passengers side to get in. Embarrassing when I have company traveling with me. Otherwise I just live with it. The dealership offered to replace the linkage problem in the door for around $500. No way.
The paddle style seat adjuster was broken when I bought it. They no longer offer this style so I used a putty that turns to steel and created my own paddle so that my husband and I could adjust our seat when we take turns driving.
The check gages light often comes on.
The oil light sometimes comes on. Even after a oil change.
There may be a moisture leak somewhere, but the dealership said it is too costly to repair and redirected me to another auto detail shop. it may be in the trunk since the back seat sometimes has a damp feel to it. another $500 if I were to dish it out.
All in all I paid $2650 Canadian for it at a car auction. it is sharp, snappy and pretty sporty to look at. The ride in luxurious. Much better than most.
If the air conditioner worked I would like it better!
I have over 220000km on it and it runs like a charm. It also attracts attention. I often get approving looks and comments wherever I go! I keep it clean and it gleams in the sunshine. It's a dreamy white car indeed.
I also have a 1994 oldsmobile achieva s. it is a very good car I have had it for 2 years and only had to replace brakes, starter. it's a 3.1 v6 very quick car beat a 89 Acura legend, and a few Honda Accords. would like to know how much horse power it has if any one knowes email me. doughfriend1960@charter.net
Things I've replaced on it to make it run better didn't need to replace any of it, but did anyway.
Radiator, oxygen censor, oilpump, exhaust, coolent temp censor, coolent censor, intake, temp censor, thermastate. If any body has any coolent trouble replace your thermestat and or temp censor. the achieva seemes to have problems with there gauges I have replaced all of this stuff and sometimes have coolent light, engine light, oil light to come on, but theres nothing wrong with it I would say that is what os wrong with a lot of your cars. just keep checking fluids..
I have a '94 Achieva. It has nearly 300,000 kms on the motor and is still running great. Awesome power for a 3.1 litre. My check engine light and check gas lights come on often. If it is just the check engine, it is likely the 02 sensor. Check fuel may be the fuel filter needing changed and if you don't change it, it may cost you around $300 for a new fuel pump. I had my car checked out and changed the fuel filter, but the light still comes on. Mechanics say that it is likely that it is the module for the gauges/instruments.I recommend changing the fuel filter once a year.
