Exhaust ECU "switch off and check engine 5/8",this is a common fault with 348s. Brought ecu and fitted myself, this takes 10 minutes max.
Hot start problem, caused by lack of flywheel grease. Fixed when clutch was replaced during its last major cam belt service. again quite a common issue on 348s.
Brake light sender unit failed, cheap to fix cost £15 to replace.
Leather seats scuff, but this is a general problem with all leather seats when used not just Ferrari, simple fix is to buy liquid leather and treat them yourself cost was about £40.
Exhaust heat shield disintigrated... expensive at £600 and only 1 of 3 parts to heat shield.
Stone chips, because of the speed this car travels at and being so low to the ground it picks up a few chips. I had the front end resprayed.
Owned this car for over 2 years and loved every drive in it. was 27 when I purchased it and it was a dream come true.
Very quick car,I've personally taken it to over 170 mph.
Handles well, but know your limits easy to get the back out in the wet if you want to.
Roof leaks a little... but it's a spider so I expect that and it hardly goes out in the rain anyway.
Certainly turns a few heads.
I love the engine noise and the expensive alpine stereo fitted is a waste because I end up seitching it off to listen to the engine note.
Expensive to run and drinks fuel... but when do you expect it's a Ferrari!!
Great car for the money, would prefer a 355 for the looks, but that just my personal opinion.
You've taken it over 170mph? Hope this was on the racetrack. If not, hand over your license sir, you're under arrest.
Ahhhhh, the racetrack that is the M6.
I have a 94' 348 Street Challenge. Very rare (13 made). I love it. Keeps up with my friend's Z8, and a 2003 911, and 1999 355 I see on track days (sorry guys). Magazines were too hard on this car. It is pure Ferrari, and even at 1/2 the performance, it still blows people away more than any thing other than a Ferrari or Lamborgini. As dependable as any BMW or Mercedes I've owned. Roof leaks a little. Incomparable sound. According to several polls, the Testarossa is the most widely identified and highly regarded super car, (by the masses that is), I think the 348 rides on it's coat-tails, which is fine with me. It gives me instant credibility which I try not to use because it is too easy. Disappointments? Not enough hot-rod pieces. I would like another 50 - 100 horsepower, just because. Upkeep not bad at all if you find a non-dealer mechanic. Easy to work on. Parts expensive if you don't shop. I have owned it since 1998. Incredible handling and braking. Holding it's value well.

I have owned a 348 for 11 years...18 months old when I bought it.
I never take it out in the wet if at all possible, but was amazed how rusty it is looking underneath!...paint in cills bubbling also... i thought I had kept it "as new"!
Otherwise great... pretty reliable etc, expensive to service so with low mileage I only service every 3 years when cambelt due.
Would love 360 but 90% of people still think this is a relatively new car so...
18 months old when you bought it! Wow, that a young age to start buying cars! hehe
I am looking at a 348 or 355 as my first Ferrari, not sure which yet.
I have had a 1990 348ts for 7 years and I absolutly love it. However I service it myself. It's very simple.
The car is wonderful. Since I started daily driving it, I have had no issues, with the exeption of the occasional doorhandle rattling loose.
Keep in mind that this is a race car, and it's made lightwieght.
Clutches last about 15k if you know how to drive, and arizona brake and clutch in Phx AZ will rebuild the factory discs better than Ferrari for 128.00 USD.
In addition, run 30 weight oil in the gearbox and you will preserve the tranny & syncros.
If you drive the car daily, you will have very few issues. If you don't, expect a constant pain in the neck.
Don't forget to read the manual, Ferrari knows what they're talking about. Follow the instructions.
I love my car. The only thing I would change is the color. You don't need red to get any more attention. It gets plenty. Good luck, and don't forget to respect the cars boundries as it bites...

I recently purchased a 348 spider. It is a 94 Red with tan interior. This in my opinion is the best looking car that Ferrari has made to date. The car is extremely well built, the interior leather is the quality of a... well like nothing I have ever seen. I have always wanted a Ferrari since I was a young boy. It is dream come true for me, I guess I am somewhat like Luigi form the movie Cars.
I've owned my 348 Spider for 2 years now, and it's an awesome Ferrari.
Stick a Tubi on it, decat it (for the track), and it sounds out of this world.
Handling and feel is very raw, which is just how I like my cars. Feels go kart like. Much much better than the vague steering on a 355.
Visually stunning, like a baby Testarossa. One of the best looking Ferrari's ever.
I too just got my hands on a very well taken care of red/tan 348 with tons of mods including"
- Carbon fiber seats
- X-ost performance muffler "wow"
- 360 modena wheels and tires
- Total 30k service done belts, water pump etc..
- Updated callipers and rotors
Now I'm just bragging.
The whole point to this; if you are shopping for a 348, take your time, do your home work and ask lots of questions and be patient. There are a lot of great cars out there; don't get fixated on your first one unless you are sure. C U on route 66.
Ciao tutti.

Hi. Apologies for being so thick, but what is 'Tubi' and what is 'decat'?
I've wanted a Ferrari since I could see, when I had the Money I went searching, to try & convince myself 'not" to buy one, because most people id spoke too said there unreliable & constant trouble, well I bought the 2nd one I saw Yellow (which I prefer) Spider & I've now owned it for 7 years & that car has given me more pleasure than I could ever put into words, and nothing has ever gone wrong with it, & it gets more attention than a naked Super Model!! & London is a better place because of it.
Trace.
I figure he meant Catalytic converter removal... maybe smooth flo thru tubes. We have a modified Viper; suspect that's what he meant.
