"This car has a lot of problems and is not for heavy traffic areas"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

My head gasket has a small leak.

My window brackets are broke on both sides.

Speedometer works when it wants to.

General comments?

I have read the input on this car from you folks and I am a mechanic by trade. I no longer work in a shop since I have chosen a different field of work. I fix my own vehicles and own a 1995 NEON myself. I am very good at listening to noises and knowing what to problem is. Below are some of the problems I've had with my Neon and thw solutions I have come up with. I am also diappointed with the Chrysler corp. We all work hard to make a living and buying a car that you have to pay for 2 to 3 times the price after all repairs are done is not the American way.

1. Speedometer not working! Tap on the speedometer facing and it will start working. Reason being is that the instrument panel has worked it's way away from the plug in connector. Lift the dash and reseat it.

2. Radio not working properly and other gauges malfunctioning! The computer brain box under the hood will sometimes stay on making a faint high pitch whinning sound when you turn the car off. Results in getting hot and melting wires and fuses. If you hear this sound which you may have to put your ear close to the hood just in front of the driver side windshield then you can turn the ignition all the way back on without starting the car and turn it back off. This will somehow turn it off. I have replaces my for about $100 at autozone. Just a simple plug in box.

3. The roaring sound you hear in the rain may be coming from the tires. I replaced my tires and have no roaring sound anymore.

4. Instrument light do not work, but your headlights do. The dimmer switch for turning the headlight on is wore out. It is an expensive part so here is what I did to bypass. Take a wire and connect it to another wire on the fuse box that is hot only when the ignition is on and connect it to your instrument panel fuse and your instrument panel lights will work when the ignition is on.

5. I am also looking for some parts for my car as well. If you have a problem with your 1995 Plymouth Neon and you think I may be able to give some advice on the problem you may E-mail me at ghost32@sbcglobal.net and thank you for your time.

Thanks so much! My speedometer (and odometer, gas gauge, etc) don't work, and I was sure it was just loose, but mechanics want $80 to look at it and $400 to replace the circuit board. This car isn't worth the money. SO Your advice confirmed my suspicions, and I feel I can fix this myself.

THANKS!!
