1990 Gurgel BR-800 SL from Brazil - Comments

"Genuine Brazilian piece of crap!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Everything!

Dealers? They disappeared, after Gurgel bankrupted in 1994.

General comments?

Lucky me, that I sold that junk, in the same year they bankrupted.

All this is utterly intriguing. The attached link gives a pic:

The car looks rather fun in a beach buggy kind of way. Looks a bit rear end heavy. Beetle based?

WHO would name a car after the sound you make when you're drowning?

I have two BR-800, one of 1990 and other SL model of 1991 by Gurgel. This car is like a little jeep. Is a very good car. The owner of the Gurgel Motors fought with producers of ethanol alcohol and assembly plants multinationals of foreign cars, just therefore it declared insolvent.

August João Conrado do Amaral Gurgel dreamed very, is truth, but it knew to materialize its dreams. Many vehicles left its intelligent assembly lines, that still twirl for the country, certify this. But he did not like to be considered a dreamer. Produced 40.000 vehicles. 13 years later, thousands of its cars continue functioning and never open engine or get a great repairings.

Wow, I looked up a picture of this car and I can see why the reviewer hated it so much. Probably a neat novelty, but it looks like a real SOB to live with day in and day out. I think they named it Gurgel because if you wrecked in the water, you would not have enough space inside to unstrap yourself, therefore you would *Gurgel* and drown!!
