Whats wrong with the truck? Well, I am now at the Point after only a few months of having to trade it in on a smaller truck. The reason this is so is because the truck is frankly a service station dream. with the average cost to fill it up ranging from 60 to 80 dollars. With a 35 gallon tank and having to fill up every 450 miles. Other than that I have had no problems what so ever.
I love this truck how ever It has come to the point in which I must trade it in.
The reason is because keeping it gassed up in this economy is a huge task.
My Truck is the SLT 4door long bed V8.
It is very comfortable and reliable. It could Sit 6 people comfortable.
In few months I have owned this truck I have gone on 2 round trips from TN to NY and one round trip from TN to NY with no problems what so ever.
The Problem. If you aren't a wealthy businessman then you might want to reconsider buying this truck. the cost for keeping the tank even somewhat filled is more a costly expense that I can afford.
If extreme cost for gas isn't a problem in your house hold I would strongly suggest this truck for its comfort, reliably, cargo capacity, and Room for the whole family.
Hello. I have this same truck and I am in the process of trading it in for a smaller truck. I agree, it is a very nice truck, but it is costing me approx. 540.00 a month to keep gas in it. The 360 v8 is a very thirsty beast. I really would love to keep it, but I need better gas mileage.
If you want a Small truck, I would try a Ford Ranger or Chevy S-10. If you want a truck that consumes less gas, I would also reccommend a Ford F-150 or a Chevy Silverado..
They are very good trucks and have good economy for their class..
Dodge don't care about fuel economy or anything, they just want your money to buy garbage.. I also do not like the front end of those Dodge trucks either..
If you had bought a Dodge Ram with the diesel you would not be complaining. My 1999 Ram would get 22 to 24 MPG on the freeway. My 2004 with the hi output engine (diesel) is getting the same mpg. If you put your foot into it and go 70 to 75 mph the economy drops off to 18 to 19 mpg. Anyone buying a full sized pickup with a gasoline engine cannot expect economy. If you get 12 mpg consider yourself lucky. I would not have a truck without a diesel. The extra initial cost of the engine will pay for itself in 50,000 miles. ED.
If you had bought a diesel you would be very happy with your truck, as you would be getting 20 to 24 miles per gallon. Full sized trucks with gas engines have to take a lot of gas in order to pull heavy loads. Diesels are more fuel effcient and give you more power.
Can anyone advise me in respect of buying a Dodge Ram and importing it to the UK. now I am aware they come in various cab types and I rather fancy the quad cab 4 door.
Also in the UK it is about £3.40 a gallon which unlike the US is 4.5 lt's to a gallon. so with this in mind I could not afford the V8, but I'm told they do a V6 3.7 ltr.
I was thinking of having a gas conversion to LPG done as that fuel is about half the cost at about £1.66 a gallon.
If I was to buy an official import here in the UK the vehicle costs about £36000 and at about $1.80 to the pound will give you an idea why I'm thinking of going to the states and bringing one back. I am aware of import duty etc, but I think I will still save a vast amount of money than buying one here in the UK.
What is the Dodge like and are there others which are better IE Ford or chevrolet ETC.
Are there any pitfalls apart from it being left hand drive in a right hand drive country?.
IF you are going to get the Dodge Ram, then do yourself a favor and get the Diesel engine in it.. Now the diesel will add a couple $1000 over a gas engine, but you could look for a used one for cheaper... Diesel is not an option in the Dodge Ram 1500, only the 2500, and 3500...
They are supposed to last long.. and are utterly reliable... plus get good diesel mileage.
If you go with the Diesel on the Ram and the clutch then you should have a reliable vehicle.. otherwise if you go with a gas engine then go with Ford F-150, more reliable.
IF you need to do serious 4 wheeling, then Chevy/GMC is the answer.
Yes the gas is a problem with this truck. My husband drives 45 miles one way to work a day. So he normally has to fill up ever other day. And with gas up to 1.67 a gallon here now, its costing about $40 dollars to fill it up. I'm not sure on the tank size. I'm assuming around 22 gallons. And it is costing us about $400 a month to drive for work.
The reliability though is our only reason we've held on to it thought. Because my car breaks down a lot. And we at least know the truck will make the ride ever day.
I bought a 2003 1500 Quad Cab with the hemi. This truck is the best truck I have ever owned. I prevously owned a 94 Ford with the in-line 6 and my hemi gets better gas mileage with 17 to 18 mpg. The price of gas is high no matter what you drive. If you want a truck, you might as well have one worth driving. If you want really good gas mileage, I suggest buying a car.
About good gas mileage on the hemi, I almost fell out of my seat laughing. They are just as bad as the 5.9L.
Also, people buy a truck for its use and providing good gas mileage is something that trucks are not known for. For example, I own a 2001 Dakota Quad Cab with a V6 and I'm looking to trade this in for a full size since that V6 is gutless and cannot tow if its life depended on it. That is why I want a V8 full size 4x4. And if you think that a V8 in a mid-size truck will get you better gas mileage, don't believe the hype.
A truck is a truck - it's not a gas mizer.
