1976 Chrysler Centura KB from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"302+hp, 1160kg.. You do the maths"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Previous cars I have owned had their auto's fail.

General comments?

These cars started life as a small french passenger car, the Simca 180, with european interiors, european handling and a tiny 1.8 litre 4 cylinder engine.

Chrysler Australia needed a small economy car that still used Australian engine parts... So they put the Australian built 4.0 litre 'Hemi' in them. It did reduce the handling, but not overly so. Performance however was startling.

The 4.3L version of the 'Hemi' with its 302hp (225Kw) once held the title of fastest accelerating production 6 cylinder in the world... In a 200kg heavier car (and I think still is for non-turbo cars).

I own a kb centura with a 265 hemi.904 torque flite auto.

4000rpm high stall torque converter and a 4.11 lock diff.

What a rocket!

I'm putting a 383 V8 into my Centura, which dynoed out to 580hp, with a 3.89:1 rear axle and a toyota supra 5 speed. Standard centuras don't really go that hard. Sold one for a 1992 RX7 before. Own two Centuras currently.

I have two Centuras currently. A 1976 KB and a 1977 KC. The green KC is absolutely original, in fact I had to take off the plastic wrap that was sewn onto the seats from the factory, when I got it. The KB, I put a 440 into, with a 5 speed gearbox and 3.89:1 diff, removed the vinyl roof, debadged & painted the whole car silver. Always looking for parts. Anyone got any??

I own a KB Centura with a warm 245 4 speed and 3.23 diff. I've just fitted 100hp nitrous. This should wake her up.

This car has had a complete ground up rebuild. With a set of Toyo hill climbing tyres on, she handles like a dream! Sure surprised me!
