"Unusual and rare Jaguar X Type alternative at a fraction of the cost. A dream to own"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The only minor thing that has gone wrong with this stunning car is the front headlight bulb.

It has been absolutely faultless since I bought it, bu the servicing is expensive so beware. I has the car serviced at 56000 miles having just bought it and it cost me £900!

The cream leather seats do tend to attract dirt, but that is the risk you take with such a light color.

General comments?

A superb, quick and luxury saloon car which really is a rarity to see on the UK roads. It is a good feeling to drive a car which stands out from the crowd and has performance to match.

It oozes the feel of an "X Type" Jag and feels just as well built if not better.

Keep it well serviced and it could do the same mileage as my friends one which has nearly clocked 300,000 miles!!!

If they still built them I would have an order down for a new one tomorrow!!

I too had one of these lovely cars. They go best with a sprinkle of parmesan.

Like an E type?

Actually the Mazda is much better built as the E type was rubbish apart from its looks.

It Said X Type not E Type.

I'm now about to enter my fourth year of ownership of my 1996 Mazda Xedos 2.0L SE.

During my period of ownership the car has passed 4 Mot's with no Advisory Notices.

In 27000 miles, with the exception of a slight miss fire - a set of HT leads solved the problem - it has performed faultlessly. The car has now clocked-up 59000 miles and would you believe, in almost four years I've not even had to replace a lamp. The car is now almost 11 years old and yet, everything works perfectly! This speaks volumes for Mazdas' design and build quality - especially the electrics. Incidentally, my experience is not unique - there are countless numbers of owners with similar experiences. It certainly was a sad day when Xedos 6 production ceased.

The items I have replaced are:

Both front coil springs. Look no further than pot holes for the reason.

Exhaust mid and rear sections.

Six new tyres. Just replaced the fronts for second time.

That's it, nothing else.

I'm looking forward too many more trouble-free-miles in the Xedos.

The problem for me will come when age takes it's

inevitable toll. The Xedos will be a hard act to follow.

Well done, Mazda!

Hi, great to read all the above comments, I am about to purchase my first xedos 6, have had 3 Mazdas in the past 2x 626 and 1 323 so I know all about Mazda reliability!.

Just wondering about parts etc (should the need ever arise) is there any where that's reasonable for xedos 6 parts etc?

Parts can be expensive if you get them direct from Mazda, but that depends on which part. In general the part itself is usually a good price, but then the actual workmaship/labour for repairing it is where they overcharge you.

If you live in the UK like me.. best bet is to try breakers first for your part unless u absolutely need it brand new... then find an independent garage to fix.

Example...

I've got a 92 K Reg UK model Xedos.

my clutch gave way about 2 weeks ago... all it was was the hose for the hydraulic clutch system was leaking... never happened before so was not surprised after 15 years. The hose itself cost only £21 of which two were needed, but bcos they had to order it from Mazda... kept it overnight... labour came up to £156. With VAT and all that the whole thing cost me £208. Understand tho that if I did it with an independent mechanic... labour could have been beaten down to £80 or so. Another example is had my rear brakepads changed a while back and for both it cost me only £65 with labour from an independent garage... if with Mazda could have cost me £100+...

Enjoy the car mate... absolutely brilliant. Thinking of getting the RX8 now, but with the reliability issues and stuff I read... just makes me panic. Anyhow... all the negative issues I've read about seem to be US based... the UK models seem to be just fine so might go with it... to let the Xedos go tho... too hard I just might keep it for everyday runs and the RX8 for weekends.

Hi I am buying my first xedos6 this week. It is a 1999 model with 100,000 miles with only one owner from new so seems to be a good deal. Is there anything specific I should look for before buying the car.

Hi I've just got my first Mazda Xedos 6 2.0 V6 and it's one of the best cars I've owned, and I've had a Sierra Cosworth.

I purchased a 99 Xedos which had done only 32k miles one owner. I bought it as a stop gap. I sold my 2005 range rover because of the crazy depreciation. I used to be in the trade and have owned and driven just about everything going from Rolls Royce's to Reliant three wheelers.

This car is a revelation. Its so comfortable to drive, very very quiet, you can hardly hear the engine. I think it is a very pretty car as well, The drive is beautifully balanced and sensitive. The styling is as fresh now as it was 8 yrs ago. It's a little thirstier than some, but it's a small price to pay.

I am totally hooked and its going to have to be something sensational to get me to part with it.

Fantastic value.

So if you are looking for some luxury without breaking the bank buy a Xedos 6. You will not regret it

I am now entering my fourth year of ownership of a Xedos 6,

This car never fails to astound me, Ulra reliable, amazing super smooth v6 engine, build quality that Mercedes Benz can only dream of, and the timeless drop dead gorgous looks that only Alfa Romeo come close to!

Plus the added bonus of driving a car nobody else in your town owns!

I'm amazed that after nearly four years I am smitten with this car.
