Steering (rattling in steering, pulls to the left, shakes terrible when hitting bumps in road), Brakes (replace master cylinder, front calipers (not covered after 12000 miles on B to B warranty) ), Tail lights (wiring harness shorted), Terrible tire wear (need 4 new tires already - dealer blames it on tire manufacturer - my neighbor has over 60000 on the same type), CD player, Coolant disappears (I keep refilling it), transmission slips out of gear at stop lights. All this and only 18982 miles on it.
I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone. Not because of the type it is, but because the maintenance departments are clueless in troubleshooting and resolving problems. They would rather make excuses.
Buddy that may be so, but there are many gm dealers out there that know quite a bit! So quit your whinning and, but a dodge!
I am having problems with my 2003GMC 2500HD, I brought it in for a malfunctioning heater control, when I got it back the lights didn't work, the door locks lock and unlock by themselves, my map lights go on and off when you depress the brake pedal, I don't have any dash lights and my mirrors don't work. The first thing I was told is it was my remote starter that was causing my problems. Then when the remote starter was removed they told me they weren't sure it was the remote, but how it was installed. As a garage owner and ASE certified Tech I can tell you the install of the heater control and reprogramming of the BCM
was botched. I have been without my truck for 9 days.
Are there any trained techs at the dealership any more?
I am the owner of a GMC Sierra 1500 SLE 4.7; I bought it off the lot and it has yet to give me a single malfunction. About 6 mos. ago I put 24" rims on the truck, and still, not a single problem to report. Surprising, but very true. Great handling, very dependable and powerful. Still rides smooth, even with the custom wheels on it. After 2 years, it still has extremely pleasing "get up and go", almost matching the day that we bought it (as well as rivaling my Acura). I would definitely recommend this truck to anyone who is in the market, as it has proved itself impressive. But I remind you, get all of your due maintenance (i.e. 30, 60, and 90 k., tune ups, and tire rotations as well as religious oil changes), as the performance of a vehicle has just as much to do with the owner as it does with the vehicle itself.
Reading others' negative reports on this truck initially made me consider myself very lucky, until I considered the fact that I am not the only one in my circle of friends to own a 2002 Sierra and be very pleased with the overall performance and value of this truck. My longtime friend Jeff is also an owner (and a MECHANIC no less--so you KNOW he takes good care of his truck) and has nothing, but good things to say about his Sierra, having only ONCE (beyond regular maintenance, of course) had to use his expertise to "fix" his truck, a prematurely expired reading light being the culprit. This normally would set you back all of $10 and take 5 minutes to repair.
Bottom line being that the GMC Sierra is a highly recommendable truck and still runs fantastic for me, as it has not given me a single problem in 2 yrs. and is the sole reason that my friends must endure so much bragging on my part:). Being as satisfied with the very respectable endurance of this vehicle as I am, I dutifully have to suggest that if you are looking for a lemon, buy Ford:). Good luck in your search everyone and remember, take CARE of your investment.
The only place I hear poor comments on GMC trucks is the Internet! I've owned two LS1 generation GMCs, both excellent trucks. My friend Tim, thought he was die-hard-Dodge, was soo impressed with my truck (s), he now owns a GMC, and loves it, especially the fuel economy and power. Another friend, Todd, a Ford salesman wants a GMC, but does want to anger his employer. My father, always a GMC/Chevy man, tried a Dodge because of the price. He learned his lesson, you'll get what you pay for! He's back to a Chevrolet.
