I`ve had the car for just over two months and have already spent over $500 on these repairs, hopefully there will be nothing major for the next couple of months as this is my winter beater.
One thing though is that I find it idles a bit rough. I noticed the rpm`s to be only between 600-650. do any of you think that this is normal?
In answer to your question; No, it isn't normal for your Delta 88 to idle roughly. Keep in mind that the cars sensors having to do with oxygen and fuel as well as electrical are monitored by the main computer (ECM) so if they are damaged, your performance will suffer. If your car is running really rough, take a look at your ICM (ignition control module) and make sure that it isn't in some way burnt out or otherwise damaged. The module should be just to the right of your alternator where all your plug wires lead to. The module will continue to fire even if not on all cylinders so your car could be running on less than its 6 cylinders which can make the car run rough like you say. You could try putting some fuel injector cleaner in your fuel the next time you fill up, dirty injectors could easily make your car run or idle rough too and even while you do this, check your fuel filter and replace it if it is dirty or even looks worn. These are just a few obvious things you could try that could really improve your Delta 88's performance. Remember the old saying? "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" or something like that, but I'm sure you get the picture. Good luck and enjoy the fine automobile that is the Oldsmobile Delta 88.
